OUT OF CHARACTER
>> uber sorry for the wait. i should have had this up sooner. :/
INSIDE CHARACTER
Very few, doubtless, would consider this a lovely night. Even for early summer, it was unusually humid and unpleasant, the air seeming to just drip with disgusting, sticky moisture. It had previously rained, dampening the overall atmosphere even more so, and making being in open air near unbearable, even now that the sun was setting and the first bright fireballs were beginning to appear in the sky. There was, however, one brave soul, one brave female who dared to venture out in the conditions, driven by the innate desire to be moving and exploring and just... doing. Doing anything. The classical syndrome of a restless teenager and child, that need to always be on the move and busy. Sitting around was boring, espicially when there was no way that you were going to come by any sleep in such conditions, unless you had a den dug into the ground. Underground, the adolescent didn't doubt, would be a wonderful reprieve from the summer heat. (something she found nearly impossible to sleep with at night) Hmm... guess there really was something to be said about this "having a den" thing. They kept you cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. Sounded like a pretty good deal to her. Really, she ought to get around to making one of those things.
White Rose Lake never failed to take the peppery femme's breath away, no matter the conditions. It's surface was as crystal clear as always, reflecting the rapidly dimming sky in all of it's majesty. The unbroken sheet appeared almost to be a portal to another world, one equal and opposite to their own. Another dimension, if you will; a mirror image to this dimension and world. Of course, this was not so, and the portal could be broken as carelessly by a grey teen who plunged into it's cooling depths.
Kioko reveled in the refreshing chill of White Rose Lake, feeling the water soak through her coat and touch her skin, leaving her overall refreshed. Thank goodness for water, espicially on muggy nights like this. Now, there was no cause to worry about the temperature of the outside world, as the grey wolfess had finally found her own, refreshing universe. And refreshing it was, right from it's core to where she splashed and paddled about, to the edges of where water lapped at the solid ground. It was like an earthly slice of heaven, at least on such a night. Be thankful for small mercies.

Out of Character Sorry, I should have had this up more... sooner, too! But lucky you, you get to deal with Temi on a more deranged day.
In Character They shouldn't have let her out of their sight. While the continuous waves of nausea had passed and the terrible headache had dulled, Artemis' mind was still clouded and easily mixed up. Such a condition combined with the female's overactive imagination could only mean trouble. After that last horrible fit of coughing and the forgetting--that was the worst--she was supposed to have gone to lie down. She'd intended to, she really had--until her destination had slipped her mind. And that wasn't the only thing that'd slipped.
Artemis? Who was Artemis?
She didn't mind the humidity, really. She was easily acclimated to such weather--being cold-blooded had its advantages, she thought as her wanderings brought her to the Lake of the White Rose. She grinned at the large reptilian prints she left, large yellowed inscisors gleaming in the twilight. Trees burned and rocks melted before her fiery breath. A long red scaley tail snaked along behind the slinking figure, and large cunning eyes scanned the landscape until they spied a paddling treat. Her stomach agreed--time for a late dinner.
"Good evening, morsel," the great dragon growled, drawing up to the water's edge. She found it much more entertaining to toy with her food before injesting it. Plus, it was good for the digestion. "I believe it's dinner time, and I--ah, ah, ACHOO!" The sneeze knocked her great body backward, and the ground smoldered at her feet. This illness was really trying her patience.

OUT OF CHARACTER
xD *cracks up* Oh, this is going to be interesting, even though this post is awful. :/
INSIDE CHARACTER
"Good evening, morsel, I believe it's dinner time, and I -- ah, ah, ACHOO!"
These were the words that startled the grey teen to whirl around, nearly inhaling a lungful of water in the process, and stare at the silver female behind her, who apparently had some type of game in mind, judging on the way she was talking. Clearly, wolves didn't eat other wolves, after all, so she must be planning a game of some type. Being Kioko, the peppery adolescent was more than happy to jump right into the stranger's game, and continued to paddle about a ways off shore. Oh, this was going to be an interesting night, all right. Games were always fun, espicially games like this where you got to pretend you were something you were not. Make believe; those had always been her favorite games, as a pup. Heck, she still wasn't much older than a pup -- just a teenager -- so the wolfess was quite certain she was still entitled to games like this. You were only a child once, right?
"Well, if you want to eat me, you'll have to catch me first!" The Kappa teased, paddling a little further out into the lake. "Betcha can't get me!" Oh yes, Kioko was jumping right into roll here as she swam about, already feeling invigorated by the familliar fun of a game. Some wolves might have said that she was too old for this, that she should be more serious and dutiful, but what was the fun in life then? What was the point in living if you were never going to get out and have any fun? Just sitting around, hunting, and guarding your borders everyday was so boring. Why do that when you could be out in the middle of a lake, paddling about and playing a game with another wolf. Clearly, the latter was a great deal more fun, after all. Better to die while you're living than life while you're dead and, boy, was Kioko ever living things!

Out of Character Sorry for the delay on this. <3
In Character After losing her balance, the crimson beast steadied herself once more. It took some effort to maneuver her massive bulk. Her scaley tail made a cat-like twitch of anticipation just as she noticed her next meal paddling further out into the lake. She snorted, a great plume of smoke exiting her nostrils. They never wanted to do it the easy way, she mused. Just this once, why wouldn't the tasty canine just save her the trouble and just leap into her inevitable jaws? With a loud exclamation, her stomach agreed.
"Fine, dinner," the dragon snarled, padding to the edge of the lake. "Have it your way. You'll be in Artremriox's belly yet." And now she considered a plan of action--in the third person, of course--eyeing the glassy water distrustfully. [Her reflection matched her current identity, of course.] Temi the little moon-wolf was a fantastic swimmer, but Artremriox the great fire-dragon saw the liquid as the enemy. She confirmed her suspicions by placing a tentative paw in it and being rewarded by billowing steam. With a toothy smirk, she thought, Well, swimming isn't the only way of transportation. The silvery Creeker could be seen walking calmly away from the lake until she reached a sufficient distance and turned around. This could only end badly.
With another cat-like swish of her tail and a grin of death on her lips, she burst into motion. Bounding toward the lake for momentum, the giant reptile finally leapt and opened her huge leathery wings simultaneously. Up, up, higher, higher! Now Artremriox the Great would swoop down and snatch that cocky little dog out of the water like an afternoon snack! She could already taste it as she opened her jaws and--
SPLASH! The next thing she knew, she was flailing about in the steaming water doing her best to keep her head above water--which wasn't much. What happened?! She'd really only made it a quarter of the way to Kioko, so she didn't have far to go to get out. Coughing and sputtering, the magnificent beast flopped upon the shore, half-drowned. Touche, dog. Touche.

OUT OF CHARACTER
Aw; poor... Artremriox? *cracks up* :D
INSIDE CHARACTER
Oh, this was just getting too good to be true. This mysterious Creeker — Artemirox, was it? — was just great; really, the other female was mking her crack up in amusement. Sure, Kioko had seen good acting before but this; this was just great. Right down to the "unable to go in water" thing to the "I'm going to eat you" bit, Artemis had being a dragon down cold! Well, that was what the grey teen thought, anyways, as she watched the silver female put on her little show. Little did she know that Artemis, in fact, was not just acting and actually believed she was a dragon — how could she know? The illness had not spread about the Salvajes just yet and only very, very few were ill, so it had fairly well escaped most's notice, Kioko included. She had not even heard that the water supply was tainted, nor tasted it yet. That was all to come for the adolescent, unfortunately for her, just like it had for Temi. Sooner or later, maybe she'd start thinking she was something different too, once the illness struck in full force — a dragon too, or maybe an innocent little bunny, for instance? Well, she didn't have the power to tell the future, so it wasn't like she could say.
"Oh no, Great Artemirox, don't eat me, please!" Kioko pleaded in the most innocent little voice she could muster through her laughter, nearly choking on the lake water penetrating her mouth. "I promise, I'll be a good little wolf! I'll help you, I'll do whatever you — " The "helpless prey" cut off as Artemis began to trot away, and she cocked her head in curiousty, wondering what in the name of all that was good and holy her new friend was doing. Aw, she was abandoning their game now, was she? She was the one who had started it in the first place, so it wasn't fair for her to just walk out on it like that! More than a little bit disappointed, the Kappa was about to bark something after the retreating silver femme, when the Artemis suddenly turned around and began to charge again. What in the name of — Splash! Water sprayed off in all directions as the petite figure exploded into the water, flailing to keep her head above the water. Kioko watched, at first confused, but then realizing exactly what "Artemirox" had been planning — to fly in and grab her! Oh, this was too much! The ashen wolf burst out in laughter, paddling a little inland towards where Artemis had exited the water and collapsed on the ground. "Nah nah nah nah nah!" She call out teasingly, splashing about in the water. "Betcha can't get me!" So it was a fight the dragon wanted? — Then a fight was what it would get! No sir, this little wolf was not about to give up and be eaten by a mighty dragon!

Out of Character How did I get so behiiiind... Pardon the potential crappiness of this one. Still loving this thread. <3
In Character Damn water. The blood-red beast had dragged herself further up the Lake's bank to get away from that wretched liquid. To a fire dragon, water was the cause of all problems--there was just too much of it in the world. Little did she know just how many problems this particular water had caused her, including the problem of identity. She snorted a little smoke.
And that small action set Artremriox the Great off into a bout of hacking, both from her half-drowned state and debilitating illness. She sniffled, listening to that damn dog mock her from her safe place in the Lake. The great reptile didn't move, however, just listened. It seemed as if the canine thought this was some sort of game--even her earlier pleas for mercy had been with a mocking tone. This was no game. Artremriox the Great, Killer of Dogs would get her meal yet, she thought as a low growl was emitted. And she hacked all over the place again.
Kioko had paddled a little closer to shore, and that had given the scaly fire-breather an idea. After one great cough, burning the grass around her, the beast was motionless--eyes rolled back.
Ah, the dragon was cunning.

OMGSOSORRY. x.x This is soooooo late and I'm so sorry! I kept meaning to get around to replying, and then I'd always need to do something else right at that moment! So sorry, Tiger! |

Okay, so maybe laughing while another wolf was having a coughing attack was a little mean, but she just couldn't help it! Artemirox was just so good at acting the dragon, that it was almost believable! If she'd been blind, for instance, she might have almost thought that Artemis was a real dragon, save for the pack scent on her. It was brilliant acting, but it was just sending her into hysterics, which wasn't always a good thing when you were bobbing in the middle of a lake — nasty lake water had the annoying tendancy to get into your mouth; and then you had to go spit out and more of it came in, et cetra, et cetra. The ashen female was being forced to consider going into land — or at least a little closer to it, so she could stand — but that would ruin the game since, obviously, prey did not swim right into their predator's jaws. That was just so unrealistic, and obviously the Mount Shadow girl wasn't about to do it. Since the Creeker was acting so brilliantly, she had to act at least somewhat decently in return. It was the least she could do.
Oh bugger; was she okay? The silver wolfess in front of her had just konked out dead away, and Kioko had to wonder whether she really had. What if had swallowed to much water and was drowning? Or maybe she was choking on the water! What if she was dying right now!? Obviously, the Takahasi teen couldn't let that happen — there was no way she was letting another wolf die in front of her! So, with all her better instincts pointing to the answer she had chosen, the silver female pulled herself from the water and hurried over to the other wolfess, still sopping wet and dripping, but ready to help.
"Are you okay, Artemirox?" Concern tainting her vocals, the wolfess stood over Temi who was laying pitifully on the ground. Maybe there really was something wrong with her. What if she was sick or something, and the water had made it worse? What if she was actually insane, and really thought she was a dragon? Oh boy, that'd be problematic. How did you convince a wolf who thought she was a dragon that she was actually a wolf from Silver Creek. That would be quite the task, though chances that such would happen were silm. No, more likely the Creeker had just swallowed too much water, or was still acting. Her acting still was very good; even better if she was still acting now. She certainly could have fooled Kioko, that was for sure! Heck, she was fooling Kioko. The teen was fairly well under the impression now that something was wrong with her companion, and that she might need to run and get a Medic and any second. One could only hope there was a Medic around, and not for Temi — for her. Heavens only knew what she'd look like after this. Poor Kioko. She had no idea what she was getting herself into here.

I'm sorry for taking so long with this. It might sound a little choppy because I wrote it over the course of a few days when I wasn't ADDing like mad. lol |
The great dragon Artremriox had been holding her breath going on a minute now, but wasn't quite to the point where she'd be gasping for air. (Amazing what one can accomplish when she actually believes that she has lungs fit for a giant reptile.) She was careful not to exhale lest she give herself away by the smoke exuding from her nostrils. She still laid in her flopped down position motionless, eyelids slightly open to reveal rolled back eyes. However, it wasn't a particularly comfortable position--her left foreleg was starting to fall asleep--and the red-scaled monster wished she'd taken care on how to flop. But her master plan seemed to be working! Oh, wasn't the flying lizard such a genius? Oh yes, she was. Great care had to be taken before the overconfident beast began snickering out loud. While she was a very violent shade of red, this dragon clearly wasn't one of the brightest crayons in the box.
The sopping canine came nearer, nearer. (Ugh. Wet dog.) It was funny, really, she thought with another barely contained snigger. Her dinner thought Artremriox was a friend! Although obviously not a very close friend since she pronounced her very important and far superior! name wrong. Her plan couldn't have worked out better. Originally, she'd thought the dog might inspect the corpse and try to eat her heart--since everyone knew eating a dragon's heart brought immortality. But thinking the carnivore was a friend was even better.
Now as Kioko stood over her, the dragon saw her chance--she snapped at one of her legs. But for some reason beyond the grasping power of the big dumb beast, her great jaws didn't close on dog flesh. In reality, it was because her snout wasn't nearly as large as she'd imagined, and misjudged the movement. This failure had barely enough time to sink in before her crimson bulk was on its feet lightning-quick, and placed between the gray ball of fur and the lake. "You won't be escaping back there again, dog!" she cried, teeth flashing. "Artremriox will have you yet!" Her last sentance may have been more terrifying if it hadn't been in the third person. Artremriox took no notice. |

Sorry for the wait - I've been away. |

Oh shit. Artemriox (if that was indeed her real name) didn't seem to be breathing. Crap, crap, crap. Breathing was rather important to keeping oneself alive, and the silver wolfess appeared to have stopped doing it entirely. True, it might be that the other female was just holding her breath for the game, but she'd been holding it an awful long time now. Much longer than Kioko herself had ever been able to cease breathing. Hell, she'd never seen anyone hold in air for this long. That couldn't be good. Maybe the Creeker was dying, or already died! What was she supposed to do; what was she supposed to do?! Had Kioko been human, the option of mouth-to-mouth would have applied to her perfectly, but seeing as she wasn't, that option seemed a little out of the question. Besides, even if she had been physically able to accomplish such a feat, the salt-and-pepper teen hadn't the faintest idea whatsoever how one actually did mouth-to-mouth. So, that definately wasn't going to work.
Now would be excellent time for a brilliant Plan B to magically pop into her head.
No dice. A Plan B simply was not coming to mind, leaving the Takahasi girl to sit there and simply stare at the "dead" body of the Creek female. This was just really not her day. What was she going to tell Goldenshadow? - One of his wolves just mysteriously passed away after swimming in White Rose Lake?- Somehow, Kioko doubted he'd take that bit of news particulary well. She had been there, after all, so she should have done something about it! Already, the Kappa could see in her mind's eye being kicked roughly out of Silver Creek terra, and -
WHAT THE HELL?! Taken completely by surprise, the Shadow femme leaped back a few foot as Artemriox snapped at her leg and (mercifully) missed. Before the stunned teen could even think of a course of action to take from there, the Creek female was between her and the Lake, a predatory look in her eyes. Something told Kioko this wasn't a game any longer. Something even more told her it never had been. Flat out, something was just not right out this silver wolf. She actually believed she was a dragon, which was synnonymous with the fact that "Artemriox" actually believed she could gobble down Miss Takahasi in one fell snap of her jaws. Of course, seeing as she was really only a wolf, she couldn't really kill the youth in one bite, but she could do a hefty amount of damage, if left in such a state. She needed to snap the Creeker out of it; but how?
"Are you feeling okay, miss?" Tentatively backing up towards the woods behind her now, Kioko's eyes radiated nerves. Ears pulled back, she continued to slowly inch the opposite direction of Artemriox, prepared to make a break for it if things got ugly. If she was lucky, the other wolfess would do something stupid due to believing she was a dragon that would give the girl enough time to get away unscathed. She didn't want to fight this insane wolf, but if things came down to it, she wouldn't hesitate to defend herself.
You could never underestimate what an insane wolf was capable of. Kioko Takahasi had learned that lesson the hard way, long ago.

Alright, just got my new hard drive up and running, and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with Temi! Feel free to either end here, or keep going. :D |
A crimson tail flicked about in cat-like anticipation, and in an equally feline vein, Artremriox had already had her play with her food. Now it was time for dinner. She began to envision the peppery fuzzball roasted to a warm golden-brown, with a few bits of charcoal around the edges--just how she liked it. Then marinated in blood and topped with a three-cheese blend, served with a side of late-summer blueberries and a pinch of parsley. Salmon tongue snaked around her lips, mmmmm. Deep frying was just out of the question--she had to watch her girlish figure, after all.
The great beast advanced slowly now, one step at a time. By now, the canine must have realized there was no escape. Artremriox stood between her and the lake, and running was useless. The monster need only to unleash her fiery breath and burn her to a crisp, or take to the air. She continued the advance, a low, hungry growl emitting from her as an answer to Kioko's query. Her powerful jaws were open now, saliva dripping off huge yellow fangs. Yes, the big dumb lizard thought, yes, be afraid. Adrenaline adds additional flavor.
And then--she stopped.
All of a sudden, her posture changed from one who seemed to be carrying a lot of bulk to a more wolven sort. The hungry eyes turned bright, the malicious maw grew a grin. The switches were simultaneous, in the blink of an eye. Pale blue-grays focused on the fellow wolfess for the first time. "Oh, hello!" the neurotic Artemis said brightly. "Lovely evening we're having, hm?" The Creeker's tail swished amicably, but now her expression turned to one of concern for she'd just noticed the fear written all over the other. "Ahhmm... Did I startle you? Is something wrong?" |

I'mma end it right here, if that's alright with you. [= With school now, I have less time for threads. :/ |

Houston, we have a problem.
Kioko could only stare in fear and downright astonishment as the Creeker paced slowly towards her - there was something wrong with this wolf. She actually believed that she was a dragon, and the grey teen was seriously wishing that the little red alarm bells had gone off before now - before it had been too late to escape. True, if things got ugly she could dash towards the forest and try to get away, but goodness only knew what Artemriox would do to her then. Whether she was an actual dragon or not, the delusional female could certainly pose a threat to the Kappa. Dragons were, to state the obvious, quite dangerous and, hence, this crazy wolf whom believed she was a dragon could also be quite dangerous. The silver wolf could, for instance, attempt to bite off Kioko's leg - it was not an idea the frightened wolfess liked to entertain. Imagine if Artemriox actually suceeded and she was forced spend the rest of her life with only one foreleg or hindleg! It would be simply dreadful!
And then it all stopped.
With muted amazement, the wolfess watched a mystical transformation come over the "dragon", which she suddenly no longer was. Staring with with wide golden eyes, Kioko watched the Creeker change from a ferocious, albeit stupid, dragon to a kind wolf in the space of a blink. The questions only proceeded to drill her amazement in further, and the teen continued to slowly back away from the other female, eyes still wide and fearful. There was something terribly, terribly wrong with this wolf, and this friendly was far more disturbing than the Artemis that had been trying to eat her. Hell, at least she had understood what that side of Artemis had been thinking about - this one was just bloody confusing! "You're..." She began, backing away another few steps. "You're crazy." With that, Kioko took off as fast as her legs could carry her, leaving the insane female far, far behind.
