Yay for plots! :D ♥
Technically, getting lost in the Forest hadn't been his idea. He had managed to get some directions from those that he had run into, but Leviathan didn't really understand the directions. Somehow, that had gotten him into a little bit of trouble, when he had gone into a dizzy run and fell in the creek. It had been sitting in that warm, muddy water that he decided that he wasn't going in the right direction. The river hadn't been that narrow. And it had been much deeper, deep enough that while he was sitting there in the chest deep shallows, that he had indeed, misunderstood his directions and crashed into somewhere different.
Sighing, the puppy had stood up, wandered a bit further out in the water to the point where he could jump and started into a bit of a paddle across. It was a lazy paddle, and Leviathan mostly let the gentle current push him around in a circle before finally smacking him into a haphazard tree that he swam against until soft, damp earth had come up along his feet. It was there, up on the bank further by the uprooted tree that the smells of Silver Creek had firmly clung to his mind, and he recognized them instantly as being the same two smells that Takashi and Mars had both had. His friends, more or less. Whether he had wanted to or not, he had found the Creek and that put him in a good mood, despite the sickness that had wrecked havoc on his exhausted body.Tongue lolling out over his teeth, Leviathan looked around and saw not a soul around. The birds were singing poorly, quiet and almost out of tune, and it seemed like things weren't good there either. He frowned for a moment, but didn't know what he could do. He was feeling better despite the dip in the creek, and while his stomach was already churning and twisting into knots, but the puppy hadn't felt like finding a new place to deposit the ingested water in a rather disgusting way. Turning around and looking in the distance across the creek to the hazy forest on the humid day, Leviathan whined. What could he do if he was liable to be sick again?

Why, Tylenol PM *does* enhance the experience of RPing a sick character. XD

If Mars ever tasted rabbit again, it would be too soon. He hadn't been able to keep anything down for several days, and had mostly lived off of rabbit meat that provided a bare minimum of nourishment before coming right back up the way it had gone down. At last, on the daybreak of the fourth day, he felt well enough to shuffle out of the den. He was bleary-eyed from oversleeping, an ironic thing considering that his original symptoms had included insomnia. With so many hours of dozing through the worst of the illness, though, Mars was feeling energetic, if not entirely himself. His head swam when he walked too fast, or stood in bright sunlight, or generally did anything that was not slow, measured, and deliberate.

So he made his agonizingly slow way, trying to keep from being too dizzy or passing out from lack of-- whatever that chemical was. The stuff in the air. That his brain needed to survive. Yeah, that. The exertion left him loopy, too, just a little bit left of center. He couldn't think of the proper word for things, for example, and as we shall find out in due time, his tongue had been loosened as well. Still, he was able to stumble his way to the Creek, at long last sinking to the soft ground and laying there for a moment, taking a few long, slow sips from the river. His thirst was hardly quenched, but it was a start, at least.

His eyes had fluttered closed, but now they flickered open, and he watched with mild curiosity as something emerged from the water a few hundred yards downstream. It was the funniest looking thing he could remember seeing in a long time, really--all lanky limbs and scrawny body. He wondered for one insane moment why a raccoon looked so weird, then he burst out laughing rather hysterically.

"Levi!" he said, without thinking about it and seemingly without his own consent. What was a levi? And why was he saying the word loudly? Oh, that wasn't a raccoon, was it? It looked more like a wolf, he supposed, though it was still hysterically funny to see. He giggled even as his brain worked in what was currently the standard for "overtime." What was a levi? Or maybe... that was some kind of-- oh, maybe it was the funny thing's name? Oh! Yeah, that was it. Levi. Levi. The puppy. Mount Shadow. Idiots for parents. "Levi, there you are, I'd been wondering about you." He had? When? Oh, he vaguely remembered a bout of feverish concern for the pup... that was the first day he was couped up, right?

Or maybe the second. Anyhow, he remembered fumbling out of the den, wanting to look for the Mount Shadow puppy, for some unknown reason. Oh, yeah, because he thought the youth might be sick. Right. Well, he looked okay. Just amusing-looking. Not that Mars was in a state to judge. Wait, why was he concerned about some pup from another pack..? Oh, yeah. The idiots the pup'd had for parents. Didn't look like they'd ever came back for the boy, either, or he wouldn't have been here, so far from Mount Shadow. "Why're you... so far away from the mountain?"

And why the frock was he yelling across a hundred yards? Couldn't one of them move? Laying his head back down to drink a bit more, Mars decided that, no, he certainly couldn't. Or didn't want to. Or something like that.

Bwahaha, I suck. I keep changing fonts. :/
A few moments passed, and then out of nowhere a familiar voice practically shrieked his name at him. The first thing that Leviathan did was panic and he crouched just a bit, as if something was going to cuff him across the muzzle but then he started to look around. While his looking was a little frantic, he passed over Mars twice with his eyes before settling on the male and letting his demeanor brighten a few shades. "Mars!" he hollered right back at the older male, figuring that there was some playing to be found. Of course, the more he studied Mars, the less composed the poor guy looked. Leviathan knew that look, at least because Ravi had seemed that way.
It was then, perhaps out of general concern for the Creeker and his friend that Leviathan made his way towards Mars, figuring it was better if they didn't yell to one another despite being somewhat nearby. "Hey, are you okay?" That was a stupid question, and Leviathan knew it. Mars didn't even seem okay, he was all disheleved and looked like he had been rolling around and eating a bunch of fermented berries. "Uh, I got lost when I was in this forest and I fell in the creek over there," he said, trying to explain himself. "I don't remember how I got over into the forest too well, but I think I was sick." He thought? No, he knew he had been sick. Nudging the older male's shoulder with his nose, Leviathan whined at him. "Why are all of the animals acting funny? Even some of the wolves are too," Then again, if Mars was sick, how would he know the answers? Did anyone know why?

Even as Levi approached, Mars just kept drinking, until he could feel the water sloshing in his stomach. Very much satisfied, Mars decided he could afford to drop any sense of decorum around the kid. He rolled easily onto his back, not seeming to remember just how muddy he would end up getting, and reclined. All in all, it left his limbs spread and cocked in four different directions, his head resting in the very shallow (and obviously aptly named) shallows, with an almost silly smile on his face.

"I'm alright, Lev." One question at a time-- how are you? Check. What's going on with the animals? Check. "I'unno about all the animals. I think there's something going around with the wolves, though. Haven't had a chance to know fo'sure though. Haven't been outta the den in... I dunno, some days. Four. Or something." His mind did seem to be clearing a bit now, though. The water was helping, he concluded. He felt less stiff and generally sore. Rehydration was an excellent thing.

"You got lost, huh, little Levi?" He might have been feeling better, but he was still stuck on repeat for the most part. "That creek over there is called Silver Creek. And this is the packlands of Silver Creek. Pretty original name, huh?" The Theta winked and grinned. "My den's somewhere that direction." The male beckoned with a front paw in such a way that he might have been meaning every direction, or no direction at all. "Did you ever find your folks?" Always tactful, was Mars.

bad post warning. so tired. x__x
Maybe Mars really was okay, and maybe he was just a little put off by the behaviour of the other. Of course, Leviathan wasn't quite sure that everything was okay and in reality nothing was okay but to a puppy, something had to be okay. He had finally found someone that he knew, and that was a good thing. No more random strangers popping out of the scenery and poking at him to see if he was okay. Despite being unsure about things, Leviathan made his way a little closer to the Creeker and planted himself right there next to the tawny theta with a feeble smile and a friendly tail wag.
"Maybe there's somethin' goin' around, 'cause I was sick which is why I got lost," he let what he was saying hang in the air for a moment, thinking. "I haven't found 'em yet, nope. They might've come back lookin' for me though, but I don't remember when I was at the mountainside last." That wasn't a good thing, and his demeanor went sour and saddened. He should have just bloody stayed, but he was a child, and maybe they didn't expect him to be obedient and wander off. He sighed, a little defeated that they hadn't come to get him, and in a way he was angry with himself for getting lost and sick in the first place.

The little wolf's words produced a pang of sympathy on Mars' part. It had to be hard for the little bugger, not being able to find his family, not knowing anything about the place he'd been dumped in. "Sorry about your family, Lev. I hate t'say it... but it's been quite a while. We'd have known if there were unfamiliar wolves around here. Word travels fast." The explanation was long-winded and rambling; Mars was trying to phrase it correctly. His tone was exceptionally gentle and surprisingly lucid-- his mind, it seemed, was clearing.

"What I mean to say is... they could have gotten an awful long way from here by now." And that, even, was a roundabout way of suggesting that Mars thought they were probably long gone by now. He sighed, not liking the task of telling the pup this, but he wasn't going to say anything more. He didn't want Levi to lose all hope, not yet.

A moment of silence took him over, allowing the youth to respond if he wished to do so, or leaving a comfortable silence if the pup did not. The Theta of Silver Creek sighed again, and turned over, plunking his paws into the soft dirt and standing up. He didn't feel so wobbly, which was good, and his head wasn't dizzy, just a little bit light. He felt extraordinarily improved. A quick glance at Leviathan told him, however, that if he looked anything like the pup, they would both need to spend a few days resting.

"Come back to my den with me? Till we can sort out how to get you home?"

What was he trying to say? Leviathan was a little baffled by what Mars was saying, although he understood that the Creeker was getting at something. This he expressed briefly as some sort of disbelief in what his friend had said. Were they long gone? Why hadn't they come back? A series of questions flooded his mind and he was tempted to ask the theta such things, but before he could Mars gave him something else to think about, something that did give him a little hope.
"Okay," he said with a small nod, "I'll go with you." If Mars was intending to get him back home somehow, then Leviathan was all for it. Not to mention that the puppy knew that he needed the rest, and being offered a place from someone who liked him was an offer that the youth knew better than to refuse. To the son of a bunch of gypsys, he knew to take what he could get with charm and manners.

Mars was sufficiently satisfied with the pup's response, though to his ear Lev didn't sound particularly enthusiastic. Then again, he reasoned, how happy would he be if he were lost in unfamiliar woods and had just been presented with the idea that his parents were most likely, or at least possibly, far, far away? Not very, he supposed, and so let the young wolf's somber tone slide.

Besides, they were going back to the den, which was what Mars had wanted. He led the way in a considerably more cheerful mood than he had arrived to the creek with. The path was neither long nor short, lasting perhaps a quarter of an hour. Every once in a while, the Guardian cast a quick glance over his shoulder to ensure that Levi was keeping up.

At last they arrived, and Mars stopped at the den entrance to grin at his new houseguest. "Welcome to Chateau de Mars," he grinned. Castle of Mars... well. "It's not much of a castle, I suppose--just two rooms--but I dug it with my own paws, and it's home." Eyes sparkling, the Theta ducked into the first chamber of the den, and waited for Levi to follow.

So, my doctor was like, "OMG LET'S UP YOUR ZOLOFT LOL LOL!" and well. That's where I've been. In happy-happy-dead land because it makes me so freakin' sleepy. ;~;

Leviathan didn't say a word on the trip to the den. He wasn't sure what to say, and his mind was most definately running wild with the idea of something horrid going on. He questioned himself, mostly. Perhaps he had done something horribly wrong somewhere (well, actually he had, but that's a different story.) and karma had caught up to him and was drown him in the fact that, sure, they were going to come and get him. It was sick, sad, slow realisation that in reality, they had abandoned him and he had been gullible enough to listen to their lies.
It hurt him, to say the least when he had made up his mind on that as he had been hovering over the idea for days. But whine not he would do, not in from of Mars. In a way, the youth was boiling with anger at the fact that he had believed them. Yet, part of him was inclined to be angry at Mars, who thought that they weren't going to come back. Then again, his anger was partly alleviated because Mars had never said that they weren't coming to get him.
No, the theta said that they were only far away, which to Leviathan meant half defeat and half hope that they would hold up to what they said that they would do. Brightening just a tiny bit, the puppy was glad once they had reached the den, smiling softly at his friend. "You dug all of this?" he asked, following Mars. "I don't think I've ever been in a den like this before," he went on, distracted by peering around at the walls and the belly of the den, before settling on Mars again. No, he always slept out under the stars, that was why he never saw one.

Testing new table thingy.
It was high time to cheer the poor pup up, wasn't it? "Indeed I did," the Theta said with pride. "And of course you've never been in a den like this, unless someone's a real copy-cat. This is Chateau de Mars, and it's really special and unique. Because, uh..." he pretended to think a moment. "This dirt is unique! Unless someone got dirt from this spot to dig their den, which I sincerely doubt!" Grinning triumphantly, Mars plopped unceremoniously down in the 'parlor' of his house.

"So, how has Mount Shadow suited you? And the folks you've met, have they been good to you?" The question was spoken lightly, but actual concern lingered behind it in the Creek wolf's still slightly jumbled mind. What he would do to any who had not proved kind to the younger wolf, he had yet to decide, but some punishment would have to be meted out. As he spoke of Mount Shadow, too, a tinge of distaste entered his mouth. The mountain was nowhere Mars would be venturing again any time soon. Too steep, too rocky, too many opportunities for long falls and gruesome deaths to occur.

Wow, okay. I really suck, and uh. Thank you for being patient and making me that totally hawt avatar that I am so going to use. ♥

"Oh..." he said, not sure what to say. Special dirt? It didn't really look any more special or unique like the dirt outside, but the puppy gave his friend a toothy grin nonetheless. Yet something hovered in the air for a moment, and there came the question that Leviathan had been dreading in a way, it was one that he had made up numerous answers and bypasses before, but he doubted his lies would work on Mars. "I, uh, haven't really meant too many others." Looking down at the ground, he shifted uneasily in his stance. "I've been avoidin' 'em 'cause I think maybe they don't want me around since I've kind of been... chewing on their stuff an' all. I probably shoulda gone find t'leader eh?" Yeah, he knew that he should have.

But he didn't want to be there that much, if only for the fact that he believed that his family was going to come back... well, he had. Things had changed since then, he had learned a little bit and matured a bit. He had grown a little bit and learned how hard it was to live without having others to fall back on. He felt out of place at the mountain but it wasn't that bad. It was just like the out of place feeling that he felt standing near Mars in a den. He never recalled being in a den before, save for chalky memories of being so little. He didn't remember those too well, though.

Something selfish in Mars was rather pleased that Levi hadn't gotten too comfortable in Mount Shadow. If the boy had, Mars wouldn't have been too happy; it had something to do with his personal distrust of heights and any insane wolves who chose to live on them. Still, he felt guilty for being happy for Levi's discomfort, and sighed slightly.

"I guess you should've," he said slowly, but was not about to urge the youth to go do so. "But you don't need to go off right away and do so. You can stay here for now..." There was more he wanted to say, made obvious by the way his tone wavered in a less-than-punctuating way. Why would saying this be difficult?

Mars held his breath a moment, then let it out. "Maybe," he tried, "Maybe instead of trying to make a space for yourself in this other pack..." How could he word this and not sound like a girl or something equally sentimental? "Maybe you should go where there already is space waiting for you." Well, hell, that sounded dumb. But it was kind of true, wasn't it? Because... Mars wanted him, here, where he could keep a watchful eye on the youth he'd grown fond of. And the Guardian could smell a trace of Takashi on the boy, and the delta, he suspected, would never dislike a pup, so he was fairly sure that Takashi would welcome him warmly here.

"What I mean to say is..." he struggled, yet again. "You could--come here. To Silver Creek." Yes, that was what he was trying to say. Sure, it would mean talking with Sphinx, who could very well shoot the idea down. It might mean talking with the Mount Shadow alpha, although that didn't sound likely as the leader there likely didn't know of Levi's existence. And it would mean changes, for Mars and for Levi. Mars could do it.

Could Levi?

The silence that filled the air seemed impossible to break at first. But it was like ice melting rapidly underneath an open flame, and Leviathan found himself unsure of what to say to Mars. It was an awkward sort of thing, because here Leviathan had been hopeful that his parents were going to return and fetch him, but as the days drew on and the hours grew long and terribly, almost suffocating-like in the heat, perhaps it was becoming clearer that something had gone wrong somewhere, that he had either missed their arrival, or they had simply not come back. Leviathan refused to think that they would simply not come back for him, because that ‘pack’ of sorts that he had been born into was his family. Family just didn’t leave family behind, did they?

Yet, the scavenger way in him spoke in a bold tone that he should think about what Mars was trying to say. It wasn’t that Leviathan didn’t understand what the elder male was getting across, it was more like Leviathan didn’t believe it just yet. He chalked it up to sickness, naturally. It was the only thing that accurately fit the situation, and why Mars was offering him refuge from things, offering him a chance to lunge at a different path and a ship to stowaway on. That silent ice that had been thick was growing thin enough that the silence had to be broken. “I, uh, I don’t know. I mean, they said that they would be waiting for me and all...” he trailed off, not sure how to fill in the blanks that had formulated. Why did Mars want to take someone like him in, anyway? Leviathan didn’t have many skills, other than just being good at picking at what others had left behind. Chalk it to his parents and their ill-behaviour towards their son (at least, one of them), he hadn’t been taught too many things.

Just enough to get by, whatever that was doing for him; he was already skinny and malnourish had stunted his growth just a bit. “I don’t want to just... give up on that, y’know? What happens if they come back, what am I supposed to do?” It was wrong to disobey them, he knew it. Yet being right there in some stranger’s den was disobeying them anyway. Even though Mars wasn’t really a stranger, but Leviathan didn’t know the reasons why the theta was so drawn to him. The puppy looked from Mars to the floor and then settled on his muddy feet, completely unsure of everything around him. He couldn’t help but let some sort of cross between confusion and sadness linger there, seeing how this was quite the crossroad.

Mars could certainly not sympathize with the boy, for he hadn't been in such a situation, but he could imagine all the thoughts that must be running through Levi's head and how difficult such a decision would be. The Guardian had never had much in the way of intuition, but now it manifested in bright flashes of insight. The first was that Levi needed him to listen, and not to say anything just yet, so the Theta did just that.

“I, uh, I don’t know. I mean, they said that they would be waiting for me and all...” His heart ached at the words, for he knew how split the Shadow pup's loyalties must be: should he follow the words of a family that might not come back, or go towards friends and a future and leave it all behind? Yet... Mars wondered if the younger male understood that it wasn't quite black and white. There was a distinct area of grey there, with various possibilities, and all depended solely on this moment.

"I don’t want to just... give up on that, y’know? What happens if they come back, what am I supposed to do?” Mars slowly let out a breath that he hadn't known he was holding. There was the opening he needed, to explain how a compromise could be met. For there were more than just two options. How could he best explain that, though? Sighing, the Silver Creek wolf flicked his ears, shifted a bit to tuck his tail beneath him, and sat up. He leveled a serious gaze to meet Levi's, dark golden eyes meeting dark golden eyes.

"I understand," he said softly, gently. And he did. "But think about it a moment. If they do return, and search for you, I'm sure that even if you're not in the exact spot they left you in, they wouldn't simply say 'Oh, that silly Levi, not minding us! Let's just leave without him.' After all, think of how long it's been! Do you think they expected you to simply sit where they left you and wither away to nothing?" Mars cast a critical glance over the youth's too-slender form. That, he had noticed, and it had displeased him. It was part of what spurred him into asking in the first place. But there, his thoughts digressed.

"So I'm sure that if they returned, they wouldn't blame you for having gone to shelter being offered you." Though of course Mars thought that the poor youth's family had no intention of returning, he wasn't going to begrudge him the hope. "And..." His voice softened further, if that were possible, and this time, his eyes flickered off to some distant point behind Levi's head. "If... if they came back, and you wanted to go with them..." He shrugged, a feeble effort at making a careless gesture. "I wouldn't stop you."

Yet inside, Mars knew that to be an utter lie.

I know I said that I was going to post this yesterday, but then one of my friends kind of... set her house on fire. Figures, huh?

As Mars began to speak, Leviathan found his gaze sliding from the face of the Creeker towards the floor of his den, not sure how to respond this time. He almost acted as though the tone that Mars had used was critical, that it merited the youth to have to look down at that very floor, as if in the end he knew that Mars was ultimately right, and that he was wrong. But in a way, he wasn't sure if what was being said was really the right thing. Mars didn't know how his parents were, but then again Leviathan didn't know how they would react either, and he could only base his reasoning from things that had previously happened.

Things that just weren't his fault to begin with. The boy sighed and debated with himself for a moment or two, before trying to give Mars a decent enough answer, something to sate the childish reason and the adult. "I dunno... I guess I can think about it," he said, his voice quiet and his tone wavering between uncertainty and fear. How would they go about trying to get him to stay there? Wasn't there some sort of thing that had to happen? Leviathan didn't know much of anything about packs other than the fact that they didn't really care for leeches. Everyone had to pull their own weight and contribute, which in a way had been the same way that his family had lived, only those that didn't merely got left behind.

It didn't dawn on him right then and there, but maybe that was part of the reason behind it all. He was old enough to be able to pull some of that weight, if not contribute just a little bit. Yet, Leviathan was almost stuck in the mindset of a child, rather than advancing towards being an adult. Of course instinct had guided him partly in the right direction, but it hadn't really sunk in, what he should have known and what he needed to be learning. "Can I think about it?" Peering up at the theta, Leviathan steeled himself in what he thought would be a request denied.

Eep, that doesn't sound fun!

He hadn't meant for the child to choose right then--lord knew he hadn't. Levi, though, seemed to assume he had been demanding a decision at that very moment, and thus shifted his gaze to the floor and sputtered through a few meager sentences. "Can I think about it?" he asked at last, and Mars couldn't help but chuckle softly at the expression on the youth's face.

"Levi," he said after a moment of wondering at the oddness of this entire conversation. "If you had said yes right away I might've been worried. Of course you can think about it. Think all you want. Talk to whomever you want. Tie up loose ends if you like, or if you decide not to come after all, just... tell me, alright?" He just didn't want to be left hanging, to worry about the boy's wellbeing and decision. If Levi were happy in Mount Shadow, and was taken care of there, well, Mars couldn't very well argue with that, could he?

"Whatever you want to do," he stressed, "I'll have no problem with it." And he smiled, to cover up the second lie, for he would have a problem--but he wouldn't try to stop him. It was the pup's life, after all.

No, not really. Although I did find it somewhat loltastic, but I have a terrible sense of humour.

Mars was very much unlike anyone that Leviathan had ever met. He didn't demand an answer out of him on the spot, and he didn't seem to mind that Leviathan did make the occasional mistake, or not seem like he was completely all with it. For a change, he found that he didn't have to cringe around the Creeker at all, and it made Leviathan feel good on the inside, even by a little bit. The offer would most definitely be thought about, he would really think about it. Maybe it was worth coming to stay with someone who he had befriended, someone who wouldn't judge.
Leviathan was very much under the impression that all it would take was his thinking of an answer to return with and give to Mars, and that would be that. But he didn't know everything about the ropes, and parts of it were left very much in the dark. But, the lad had faith in what could go wrong wouldn't and what would be good would just come right along freely, and that would be that. It seemed almost too good to be true, in a way. "Okay, I'll think about it then. I'll be sure to give you an answer, too." Of course he would be sure to give Mars an answer, it was the least that he could do, wasn't it?

Awesome new table.

Mars didn't fool himself; it was entirely possible that the lad would answer in the negative. Still, a part of him hoped to succeed at this, to do something worthwhile with his days and to have a place in the life of the malleable young male. Being a guardian for a pack was all well and good, especially in these times of sickness, but there was more to a wolf's life than duty. There was family-- something Mars was lacking, but hoped to gain. There was a life, a whole life, in front of him: someone to mentor, to mold and help and do something so mundane as worry for.

So, he wouldn't lie to himself. He wanted this, moreso than he had wanted most things in his life. And he wanted Levi to say yes. The question was, would he? Mars sighed inwardly. He just wasn't sure. After all, the pup was clinging to hopes of his family, and quite obviously would find it difficult to accept their permanent absence. Of course the Guardian wouldn't expect such a change very suddenly, but he rather hoped that even if the Mount Shadow pup did say yes to his proposition, he would relinquish them after a while. Not that it was bad to remember them, but to allow them to influence his life when they were no doubt far, far away?

Mars chided himself then for the pessimism; perhaps they really would return for the lad. But it wouldn't be today, and it likely wouldn't be tomorrow, so until then, he could live on without losing Levi.

Or so he hoped.

Thus, all he said was: "That's all I can ask." Wasn't it?
