For Deception. :D --
Oh, this was bad. No, not bad like falling flat on your face... This was 'falling flat on your face and being impaled by a nail that was sticking out of the floor' BAD. Never before had Basenji feared rain, feared water, feared for her life so dearly. Just to make things ten times worse, it was pouring down, soaking deep into her pores and the thunder snarling hoarsely right into her ears. Usually the female loved prancing in storms, snapping at the water droplets, and being a merry fool in general... Now she was reduced to a shaking, pathetic, miserable fool.
There was no place to hide from this horror except for a dark cave in which she would rather not tred, but had little choice. She was crawling along with belly dragging the ground, trying so hard to reach the shelter without loosing control of her own mind. Finally, oh god, finally the pup made it to the gaping, black mouth that looked none too friendly in the stormy darkness of day. With a final burst of frantic energy she jumped into the dryness and curled up in a heap of pity on the cavern floor.
"Will I ever see Silver Creek again?" she spoke to no one in particular and lifted her head from its balled up resting place to let out a long, resonating howl. There was hardly anyway to escape the fear within, except to release little bits of it in meaningless howls that in the end made her feel worse. The pup sighed and snuggled her head between her forepaws again, effectively blocking out the sights and sounds of the atmosphere.
At least she wasn't being polluted by the rain anymore.

Blah. I'm too lazy to table-fy this.
She had yet to venture out to the Plateau during her rather long-standing bout of illness, and in result, no ideas of magnetic energy and conspiracies had crossed her mind, at least not about this place in particular. For that reason, she was able to be blissfully numb to the world and enjoy her time here - at least, as wonderfully unaware as someone with a pounding headache could be. It had started today, when she had awakened, and had yet to fade away. Previously, she had assumed that actually feeling flu-ish had only been the beginning, and that it had faded away into not having many problems (At least, not many problems that her oblivious self could detect). Now she knew that she had been wrong, but she was absolutely incapable of dwelling on it, as her levels of focus had been ruined.
Her way of walking was somewhere between skulking and skipping; her head and body were held low, not in a submissive manner - as there was no one around who needed her respect - but in the way that an extremely irritated creature would. On the other hand, she took peculiarly high steps, each foot rising a few inches above the ground before coming in contact with the grass and the dirt once again. She kept her eyes down at her paws, making it somewhat difficult to avoid all of those moving trees (Granted, she didn't believe that the magnetism was here, but she assumed that it didn't always have to be involved with the trees). But this time, she simply stepped aside with a slight smile every time she nearly collided with one. There was no shouting or swerving to be found from her. After all, she had come to the conclusion that the trees were her biggest fans and were not a threat.
As she passed by a cavern, she caught sight of a small figure out of the corner of her eye. Just as she was walking past it and brushing it off as her imagination, she heard it speak and then howl. Although Cep hadn't heard the entire sentence, her ears had definitely caught the words ’Silver Creek.’ Now, this was interesting. She turned around and walked a few feet, heading back towards the pup. She stopped at the cave mouth and glanced at the younger female, and then loudly said, ”Silver Creek?” She tilted her head curiously and continued with, ”There are moving trees there! I think they like me, though. Do the trees like you? Oh, guess what, Silver Creek is also magnetic!” She wagged her tail happily, completely oblivious to how strange she undoubtedly sounded.

Basenji found herself struggling to become the smallest object on the face of the planet. Black nose dug deeper and deeper between thin legs and nudged so far into her stomach that she wanted to vomit up leftovers to make more room. It never got that far though, luckily. The paranoid spell was broken for a merry passing second when some distant voice shimmied into her skull and forced her to stop the gut-snuggling activities of before. "Silver Creek?" A grown-up! She would be okay now! This concerned adult would guide her to safety and make everything alright...
"There are moving trees there! I think they like me, though. Do the trees like you? Oh, guess what, Silver Creek is also magnetic!” Basenji stopped breathing and immediately lifted her head, staring hard at this deranged beast. When the girl realized the intense [although accidental] scrutiny of her gaze she cautiously looked away until she was staring at one of the crevice-filled walls. Do not enrage it. Just stay calm and try to back aw- crap. She was cornered within the cave and there would be no escaping from a lunatic in the entrance, which was also the only exit, mind you. "I... oh. Tiamat never told me such things, then again I am new to the creek. I think the tree's are, um, they are... scared! Yes, scared of me, because they're always shaking in their leaves when I'm around. So, so..." Basenji was still lying on the ground, but with feet beneath her in case a quick launch off was needed. "So! Don't mess with me. Heh." She tried so hard to make it sound like a friendly little joke, like a light punch on the shoulder. She hoped she could appease the other wolf by not denying the absolutely, obviously, utterly INSANE things being said by it.

Perhaps it was just her imagination playing a rather clever trick on her, but the obsidian female could have sworn that the pup seemed to be frightened of something. She couldn't be frightened of me, could she? Deception thought. It didn't take a lot of pondering for her to decide that she answer was probably 'no' - after all, she had been so friendly, mentioning that the trees were harmless, even though the concept of a moving, fangirlish tree was kind of weird. Hm, now that she thought about it, being 'ill' - as she had been diagnosed several times, though she sort of doubted it - was probably an extremely good thing. After all, she had made a discovery that no one else in the Valley had known about...until now! She planned to make a real goal out of spreading the word about the trees, and the fact that they were to be evaded (A 'hug' from a significantly heavier object hardly sounded appealing), but by no means to be feared. And what a wonderful spreading of information it would be! Perhaps she would start at the 'Fields, where they would be the most likely to take her seriously, since many of them knew her.
Her mind quickly swerved back towards the situation at hand as she noticed that the small female had stared at her, and then turned her head away for some reason that Cep simply could not fathom. Jeez, the last time she had checked, she had only had one noticeable scar on her face, and that was the one that was near her eye. Other than that, she wasn't hideously ugly - oh, wait. Maybe some sort of unbearable ugliness hadn't been the pup's reason for looking away. Anyway, she proceeded to mention that she was new to the 'Creek and that she had never heard of such things, also stating that the trees were probably afraid of her.
”Really?” Deception replied, a look of interest crossing her face, ”They shouldn't be. As a matter of fact, I'll tell them that...” She turned around, back to the younger female, and gazed meaningfully at the nearby trees. ”Yo, trees!” she shouted, ”Look, she's smaller than you, she's harmless! Stop shakin' in your boots! You don't have to be afraid of anyone!” Now finished with yelling at the plants, she turned around once again to face the pup. ”I think I've convinced them,” she said, smiling proudly.

I sent you a PM regarding the power play, just in case you aren't alright with it. :) -- By the looks of it things were getting worse and worse at high velocity. If it was one thing Basenji did not like, it was a delirious wolf cornering her in a gloomy cave. This thought rose above all others and disallowed the anxious juvenile to fully assess the situation. Once again the brunet stranger spoke and once again none of it made sense. Basenji looked around for an escape when the she-wolf turned its head to shout at trees but it was useless. She stood up slowly and replied with a tension like no other in her voice, "Well, I appreciate it. Maybe I can get to know them now." Hopefully that would be the end of their conversation. "Hey now, I really should be going. My home is far away and I have to find it before my friends get worried." What friends? Jake and Tiamat and Chogan, maybe. They were mere acquaintances not to mention the only wolves she'd met (besides this one) upon the Salvaje lands.
The two-tone pup took a few brave steps forward but halted when the other wolf effectively blocked her from going anywhere else. She moved a bit to the other side, head low and tail locked between her legs, and tried to get out but was hindered again by the larger body of the adult. There didn't appear to be any signs of hostility coming from the obstructive soul, in fact the crazy lady seemed almost oblivious to her impeding movements. Basenji let out an unintentional huff of frustration and plopped down on her hindlegs. She would have rather taken a bath in Morning Glory Cascades than deal with this awkward situation.

She wasn't necessarily capable of wondering what the pup thought of her, as her mind was currently in a non-working state - well, granted, it worked, but not as normally or sanely as it should have. So, in result, everything that the obsidian female did came across, at least in her eyes, as completely sensible and not at all unusual. The belief that the Valley's trees could think and had feelings was cemented firmly into her mind, and so she hardly considered it irregular. She figured that, if someone had approached her and said something like that out of the blue, she would have believed it - at least, now that she was in a state that she preferred to label as 'enlightened.' It was almost funny how her discovery - at least, the discovery of a temporarily belief, but of course she didn't regard it as such - had given her more confidence. It was also quite a compliment that she could rely on the plants to be her fan club. She had never had a fan club, other than the fake one that her brothers had once started as a joke, a few dozen months ago.
The younger female voiced her appreciation, stating that perhaps she could get to know the trees. ”Glad to be of service,” Deception replied proudly, and then she listened as the pup mentioned that it would be best for her to depart now so that she could get home in a reasonable amount of time. However, in her state of drunken stupor, the dark-pelted female blocked her path every time she attempted to leave the cave, without thought and without reason. To her surprise, the other wolf seemed rather upset. ”Jeez, what's wrong, Queen Mood-swing?” Cep said, rolling her eyes slightly. This was absolutely peculiar. The pup had gone from fear, to staring, to slight humor, to determination, to frustration, all in a few minutes. She was a strange one, at least in the ill wolf's opinion.

Queen Mood-Swing s'right. XD Don't worry, her bout of manliness will not last long at all, Haha. -- It would take nothing less than divine intervention to make the crazy stranger realize what she was doing. ”Jeez, what's wrong, Queen Mood-swing?” Senji livened up a bit when a hint of hostility coated the other's words. Her mind was standing on the tippiest parts of its toes so no unforseen danger could make roadkill out of Basenji's well-being. She replied, "Don't you know how it feels to be cut off from your family?" further implying her urgent need to leave. "What would you like from me? I have nothing but my, my... my sanity damn it! Go ahead, take it and leave me be." After a second of dead silence she spoke again with some pep, "You need it more than I do." The youth was obviously becoming aggravated and Queen Mood-swing or not she would only put up with so much bullshit. Each additional minute they stood there felt like another centimeter of nerves rubbed raw inside Basenji's brain. She had turned from a cowering infant into a rebellious youth in a few seconds, and that had never happened before. It was empowering, boy it was. She got up off her butt and eyed the female daringly, this time without a single pause in confidence. Answers were wanted, now.

Deception's jaw dropped as she was asked if she knew what it was like to be cut off from her family. How...how dare this...remembering that she was still gaping, she closed her mouth quickly and bit her lower lip nervously. She had never known that the illness would make her so emotional - and speaking of which, she was starting to turn into what she would surely label as Queen Moodswing, if not for the fact that she didn't really like to insult herself. ”Of course I know,” she said, ”I...I haven't seen my mother and sibling in...in ages! Try comparing that to a few hours spent away from non-blood relatives!" She failed to realize that, since the younger female had joined a pack within these lands, she was probably separated from her actual family, as well. Of course, it would have been much more horrible for a pup, and Cep would have felt deeply sorry for her - if not for her discombobulated condition, which disallowed a more complicated thought process.
Then she was dared, almost encouraged, to take the only thing that the pup had left - her sanity. The words that puzzled her were 'you need it more than I do.' There was a moment of silence as the obsidian female attempted to figure out exactly what that was supposed to mean. Then she finally managed to acknowledge it as an insinuation that she had lost her own mind. Hm, whatever - in her opinion, the pup was completely wrong (Though she was actually quite correct), so it wasn't worth arguing over. Instead, Cep simply stepped aside and said, ”Ta-da. I moved. Are you happy?”

OUT OF CHARACTER
-- IN CHARACTER
Basenji had accidently steered the conversation out of her favor, and now it was a battle of "who should feel worse off than the other!" She silently cursed her own impulsivity, but what Basenji thought had been her worst decision had actually been magic words to make the stranger move out of the way. ”Ta-da. I moved. Are you happy?” No, not really. Basenji wasn't out of the woods yet, what if when she tried to make a run for it the other wolf surprised her with a vengeful deed? The pup lost all confidence and crouched on all fours, trying to inch around the figure and keeping her green eyes on the black animal at all times. She felt her side bump against the cave and she panicked momentarily. At first it felt like a sneak attack by a previously unnoticed ally to the stranger, but the pup realized the unsettling mistake in enough time to keep herself from attacking the wall in self-defense. In doing so would definately have made her look just as crazy as the other female and then her mean-hearted words from before wouldn't be very valid. Basenji sighed quietly with relief. In the midst of her body being frozen solid against the cold, rough cavern her mind raced with thoughts and then a miraculous thing happened. Basenji slid back down on her butt, preferring not to go out in the rain anyway, and looked to the wet, outside world as she spoke apprehensively, "You're not crazy, you just got sick, didn't you?" There would probably be denial or complete obliviousness on the other female's part, but she couldn't be blamed. The youth remembered what Chogan said about the poisonous water and the awful symptoms. This was such a classic example that she felt stupid and very cruel for saying those things earlier... Before waiting for an answer from the first question, she asked another, "My name's Basenji. What's yours?" It was an offer for a truce.

The pup still seemed rather uncomfortable, perhaps even suspicious of the older female, although she now had a clear path out of the cave - but, of course, there was no real way for Deception to assure her that she wasn't going to jump in front of her again. She seemed to flip out for a split second as she came in contact with the wall, but after that, she had quickly calmed down and sighed. One of many moments during which the obsidian 'Fielder wished that she had humanlike eyebrows, solely for the sake of being able to raise one or both of them whenever she witnessed something like this. Of course, she was hardly capable of realizing that she was quite strange, herself, at least during the illness - as a matter of fact, her current oddness was definitely worthy of a few raised brows. Not that she was really capable of realizing this; but if she had, she wouldn't have been offended by it. Cep wasn't very strange when she was healthy, but she didn't see anything wrong with unique behavior. On the other hand, she normally would have looked down on the thought of trying to keep a panicked pup from leaving a cave for no reason.
Soon, the 'Creek resident inquired as to whether she was truly insane, assuming but asking whether she was sick. At first, Deception merely shrugged, not sure whether she was actually ill. She had been diagnosed, but it had been a few weeks since she had felt nothing but sick. She just seemed loopy and on top of the world these days...but she had once acknowledged it as something flu-like...goodness, this was all so confusing. ”Well, I've been told that I'm sick...” she bit her lower lip slightly and sighed, continuing with, ”But I just...I don't know. I don't feel sick, but...” She shook her head, not bothering to try to understand. Thankfully, she didn't have to dwell in thoughts for too long, as the pup soon introduced herself as Basenji and asked for the dark wolf's name. ”I'm Deception, but it's such a mean name!” she exclaimed, ”So call me Cep.”

OUT OF CHARACTER
Maybe this can end soon? Basenji will feel bad enough for how she acted and she's still afraid of Cep so it isn't likely she's going to stay for tea. XD IN CHARACTER
Basenji half listened to Cep and half watched the rain which seemed to be letting up. About time she thought cynically. Once again she stood up then shook her fur free of dust and debris that had collected on her during the stay in the cave. "Illness can be cured, so if by chance you are sick" she didn't doubt it for a minute "then you'll get better!" If physical wounds got better on their own couldn't mental ailments heal, too? Well, in the case of the river illness it was entirely possible, but things like depression didn't get better in quite the same way. Basenji didn't know what that was though- she still had lots to learn. "I really have to go now." Basenji still felt uncomfortable being around Cep and simply exchanging names wasn't going to promise anything in Basenji's favor. "Um, good luck." Without a proper goodbye she sauntered quietly out of the cave and into the open. Paws moved faster and faster until she was a galloping speck in the drenched scenery...

She simply nodded in response as Basenji optimistically stated that, if she was indeed ill, at least it meant that she would definitely get better. Cep truly could not find the right words to say in response; she had been thrown into a state of confusion and distress over whether she was really sick. All of the signs were there, according to others - even according to someone who was less than a year old, for goodness' sake! But, other than the day or two that she had spent with dizziness and scattered blackouts, she begged to differ. However, she didn't allow herself to dwell on it for too long. Instead, she simply moved even further out of the way as the younger female stated that she had to go, wished her luck, and then exited the cave. ”Alright. Good luck getting home,” she called. Then she turned and set off in the direction of the 'Fields. Not that the pup would need as much luck now as she would have if she had attempted to reach Silver Creek a few minutes ago. Even the rather discombobulated female was able to notice that the rain wasn't quite as bad as it had been previously.
Her coat was rather damp, nonetheless, since she had never bothered to actually step into the cave. However, she shook her fur out before continuing on her trek towards home. The rain continued to let up, becoming a mere drizzle. She glanced up towards the sky, and a slight smile crossed her maw as she saw the dark clouds beginning to part. Her mood was as far from philosophical and overly thoughtful as possible, but she found it easy to compare her confusion about the illness to those parting clouds. Everything was slowly starting to become clear to her, and ironically enough, as the storm gave way to better weather, her conscience was cleared. She felt brave enough to attempt to decide whether she was sick, or if everyone had been wrong. On the other hand, whether she would have the intelligence and focus to discover the answer...the answer to that would reveal itself in due time.
