For February.

It was Starchaser's turn to be the madbeast. The whites of his eyes were red from lack of sleep, his manner wild and frantic as he looked UP to the heavens. Like a devout zealot, a pagan priest he glared up at the stars, legs set at harsh, violent angles. From where he stood in the clearing, white-kissed maw lifted just so, he seemed prepared to take on the entire heavenly host in combat.
"Tell me!" he snarled. Every fierce act looked wrong on him, the peaceloving, courtly mongrel. The anger and violence were relics passed into his genetic makeup from a passionate and powerful mother. Unable to muster such aggression from his true nature, the Prince of Stars was forced to tap into his mother's endless well of fire.
Can one blame him for being angry? The stars warned him of the sickness that seemed to steal the love of his life from him even as she stood before his eyes, and yet the stars did not reveal to him the remedy. They cooed soothing songs and cried their crystalline tears over his angular, doggish head and his beloved's weakened figure. But they did not whisper to him the one secret he wanted to know. Damn the mysteries of the universe.
Starchaser's anger faultered as he gazed upward. His ears, lay back in sorrow, his tail drooped (so afraid was he of defeat). "Please, Sirius. Aquila.... Anyone?"

ic. After a long day away from her home territory, February was finally back in Silver Creek, and she was flooded with an amazing feeling of being right at home. She grinned contently, bushy white fail flicking back and forth- yes, she was where she belonged, and yet there seemed to be something missing- she barely knew anyone from her own pack, for some strange reason, and how was a pup supposed to fit in a pack when she felt like practically a stranger to anyone? She sauntered around her homelands aimlessly, admiring the stars like she always did.
Fei wondered if the stars meant anything- every night, she stared at the heavens, the stars seemed to whisper to her, twinkling and sparkling innocently. They've always looked like they were trying to tell her something, say a story, but she had never managed to figure it out. Their message had always been blurry, and February suspected that it was because she had never known enough about it. As she began to wander around, she spotted another wolf in the area.
She blinked, because he looked somewhat like a dog. She blinked- he was staring at the stars, and he didn't seem too happy. Fei frowned, scrambling towards the wolf, calling out, "Are you okay, Meester?"

For February.

At the sound of another's shining voice in the night, Starchaser Malachi's angular face jerked to see from whence it came. From the mist of his dazed eyes he saw Sevgi as she appeared at their first meeting: small and delicate and white. His heart cried out with pain, wondering if he too was going mad with disease. As foolish as it was, the mongrel kappa was afraid that he had imagined their love. But he looked again even as the rage on his face faded to tenderness. From tenderness to sweet, mild sorrow. The pup who so bravely called out against madness was one that he had ever seen before and bore only the most mild of resemblances to his darling Sevgi. "I'm sorry, mademoiselle," his voice, strangely accented, came as softly and smoothly as liquid silk. His dark cobalt eyes avoided February's lighter orbs.
"I'm afraid the stars have played a terrible joke on me." Pushed down by defeat, the tired skywatcher fall back onto his haunches, dipping his noble muzzle down in formal greeting to the young lass. "I am Malachi d'Erom, called Starchaser."
The poor old boy looked heartbroken, sitting there in his clearing, ears flopping forward. But even then his smile brought with it a sparkle of nostalgia to his eyes and a light, thoughtful chuckle to his voice. "For a moment there, I thought you were someone else entirely. I'm sorry."

ic. The look on the doggish-looking wolf's face, and his actions made slight worry stir inside of February. Though she had no idea what caused it, something told her that she, herself, had something to do with it. Frown slowly spread across the Delta pup's face, and he observed the male, deciding not to go any closer, in case he exploded with agony, or something like that. February wasn't accustomed to the dark, almost depressed feeling in the air, and she was quite sure that she didn't like it. Her tail lied limp beind her, and she was suddenly overcome by a longing to make the male feel better, though she had no idea how that'd happen.
Ears twitched when she heard the male's first words. His fancy words sure did confuse her, but she had to admit that they were extremely elegant and "pretty" sounding. She let a smile flicker across her face, and she replied softly and sweetly, "No need to apol'gize, sir, yew didn't do anything wrong." Fei blinked, confused- why would he say that? At his next words, she automatically threw her head upwards, and she began to observe the stars almost hesitantly. She shuddered, drawing back slightly, bright blue eyes flashing apologetically. "Ah'mma Fei! Nice to meet yew, Starchaser," she introduced herself energetically, tail beginning to thump the floor.
Mm, she reminded him of someone? Well, she knew no one who looked like her, except for Tiamat. Maybe he was talking about Tiamat. "Issokay, Meester! Don't ap'logize!" she insisted, blue eyes widening- she had never been treated so courteously before, and by an older wolf too! Feeling bad for Starchaser, she bounded closer to him, tail wagging, obviously wanting to lift his spirits. "Whatchoo wanna do?"

Starchaser felt his husbandly fear and worry melt away as he smiled his crooked smile at the pup. Sure, this Fei was no Sevgi, but the mongrel had to admit, there was just something about white wolves. Tiamt, Sevgi, and now Fei. They all seemed to posess the key to bring light to his darkest hours (which seemed to occur more and more frequently).
In a better mood he would have laughed at February's question, a silvery, rollign chuckle that would make her feel special and clever. But to-night, he was on a mission. The mongrel did not mind having company, so he sat back and motioned to the stars with his noble, narrow muzzle. "Up there. Do you see the stars? Somewolves believe that the stars tell us our futures. Donnae know about tha', but the stars tell me plenty o' things. But right now, I'm looking for a future. Butnae my own...."
He shifted his posture a bit to gaze at a different slice of heaven, melancholy slipping once more into his liquid voice. "See, Mademoiselle Fei, when you came out of the wood, I almost thought you were my mate, only back before we were mates. When we met, she was a bit older'n you. An' now, we're mates. And I love her so, Fei. But she's very sick.... And the stars, they speak to me. And I need to know how to make Sevgi better." As he spoke, his voice trailed off, his eyes glazed over, and they lifted to the lights. In them, the tiny pricks of luminescence, was all his hope.

ic. Starchaser's first few words made her glance up towards the sky, bright blue eyes observing the skies, loving the way that the twinkling stars sparkled at her, admiring the story that they seemed to be trying to tell her. She wasn't to sure what it was saying, but she couldn't help but feel as if they were soothing her, telling her that Starchaser would be fine. She blinked, suddenly feeling a jet of comforting warmth cut through her body, and she comfortable, at home, feeling as if she were nuzzling against her mother's fur once more. She stopped a purr from coming out of her mouth, blinking. Odd- she had never felt this way before, it was nice, in a foreign way.
Sne returned her gaze to Starchaser, soft, attentive gaze dreamily resting on the male. Obviously, February was interested in the topic, and wanted to know more. Tail wagged behind her and she nodded. She couldn't help but still feel sorry for him- hee was obviously miserable, and February hated when other people were upset, even people that she had just met. Even worse was that there was nothing that she could do to make him feel better- she wasn't experienced in reading the skies- she didn't even know it actually worked until just then! She frowned, slightly amused that he had mistaken her as his mate, though she knew that arctic wolves were hard to tell apart.
She smiled. " No need to call me Mademoosale," she began, assuming that it was a fancy word for "Miss." She frowned, and then suddenly an idea popped up in her head, and she importantly lifted her features, politely saying, " I want to help yew, Starchaer.

Starchaser heaved a heavy sigh of relief at Fei admission. For one night, at least, he would not have to search the heavens alone. The stars, so fickle, sent him another white wolf, a satellite, to ease his pains. For one night, at least, while Sevgi lay sick and sleeping (but safe... at least she was safe), her beloved husband would not be alone. "Thank you Fei."
He settled back onto his haunches, his mother's anger drained from his goodnatured being. The stars above twinkled with compassion, sad that they could do nothing to smooth the worry lines on his forehead. "Come sit by me then. I donnae know if'n you can see what I see... Nae e'erywolf can, but please try." He felt old now. Tired. But Fei's presence brought him hope. "What do you see when you look up? Have you e'er asked a question to the stars?"

ic. Ears twitched as Fei weighed the seriousness of the moment. Since she was young, she hardly did things that were too worrysome, and spent most of her time playing, or just other typical fun puppy things. Now that she was beginning to grow up, she realized that she actually liked acting and being treated as an adult- well, sometimes, at least; she wouldn't be able to survive one day in the world of adults. It was much too real and frighteningly threatening to the young arctic pup, and though she knew that eventually she'd have to face it, she wasn't frightened, because she knew that when the time came for her to grow up, she'd be able to meet it face to face.
She nodded her head when she heard the male's words, willingly moving to sit by his side, tossing her head up to the sky. Though she knew that she would probably see nothing, but only feel an emotion, for Starchaser, she would try. Sharp, bright eyes stared at the sky as she tried in vain to pick out any messages, sub-conciously replying to the Skywatcher's question. "I've tried, but nothing's ever made sense to me..." She trailed off, blinking at the stars with a sad frown on her face- Fei couldn't read anything, not today at least, all of the different meaning and messages of the stars' alignments were so tangled that nothing worked, at least for February.

Suddenly, looking up, Starchaser felt an old wave of calm wash into him. It was as if the very goddess of starlight lifted her face down to meet his, silvery smile on her lips. Then, with the most tender of graces, she pressed her palms to his muzzle, praising good dog, good boy, as her hands moved out and down until his body entire was adored and protected. Looking up, Starchaser thanked the stars, and in the same breath damned them and begged them to show him the truth. To show him the cure for the disease he prophecied.
"It's alright, Fei. Just try. Like any'un, the stars like to be noticed." Blue eyes drifted to Sirius--the dog star with its invisible, all-important companion star (two lovers locked in eternal orbit). Even in tragedy, those two stars had one another. "His name is Sirius and he is the happiest star in the sky......."

ic. The young pup's eyes never moved from the sky, her sharp blue eyes trying in vain to figure out what the stars were trying to tell her. They twinkled at her, comforted her, but said nothing. Fei hadn't expected them to say anything anyways- and even if they did, she probably wouldn't be able to notice it, because her eyes never stayed on the same place, her patience stunningly little as she frowned, wondering why she was so inept at this- maybe this was the sort of thing that developed after alot of practice? It certainly did seem that way, though that was only because Fei had gradually begun to feel more emotions when she gazed upwards during the night.
Ears swiveled towards the older, respectable male when she heard his next words, and she began to search the sky, using her heart to see which star seemed the happiest, most jubilant. A smile curled her lips when she spotted it- Sirius. "I see it!" she exclaimed, tail wagging enthusiastically and proudly behind her, the grin stunningly wide. "Issit that star?" she asked Starchaser, using her nose to gesture towards Sirius.

*rolls in* Have I made you wait long enough yet? @_@ 'Chaser's acting so weird in this thread and Element is so sweet. I love it.

Starchaser's monocrome ears swiveled toward the arctic pup in surprise when her words registered in his muddled brain. Sure, the skywatcher's eyes had drifted toward Sirius's light when he spoke, but there were so many stars in the sky... And he had not meant to speak at all; the words tumbled forth from his white-kissed maw unbidden. The prince lowered his eyes to squint at February with appraising surprise, knowing even before she tilted her nose that it was indeed Sirius she saw.
"Yeh, that's him alright. Do you know why Sirius is so happy, petite Fei? Has someone told you about him before?"
The pain was pushed out of his eyes by mystery. He tried to remember back, way back, to when he first fell in love with starlight. Had he known Sirius was the most joyful of stars back then? No. It was only through stories and age that Starchaser learned those things. Now, with two years of constant study, the prince could pick out each light and tell its mood, fancy, and voice, even those that existed without name. What magic was this?

ooc. Nah, it wasn't that long. :P And yes, 'chaser's threads are always so fun to read! :D -stalks your threads-
ic. As she continued to look at the strange star, she couldn't help but let pride rush through her small white figure- how she had been able to determine why that star was Sirius, she didn't know, but she was still proud. Maybe she was beginning to get the hang of this after all? A small smile flickered across her face, and she turned to Starchaser to heard his words. She shook her head and frowned as she admitted, "No, I d'nno why," she stared at the tiny speck of light, trying to reach out towards it to attempt to feel what it was feeling.
A speck of warmth spread through her paws, and she smiled, "Bu' it does seem happy!" she added enthusiastically, grinning wryly. My, was the little pup proud of her accomplishment! She had never been able to figure out so many things in one night. She turned expectantly towards Starchaser, watching him, wondering what he was going to say next, and wondering why Sirius was so happy.

^_^;;; I actually didn't edit my ooc comments when I copied the table from my post with Element. But thank you! I write to entertain. <3 I wish I had more time to stalk other people's threads... @_@ I get so behind on gossip...

What sort of magic was this, indeed. The prince was feeling the shock and acute interest that comes with realizing that one is not entirely unique. He was not alone in his ability to feel the smiles of starlight and the spinning of their fantastic moods.
"I'll tell you then." Starchaser felt his muscles loosen, the tendons along his spine relaxing away the knots of stress and worry. "Most stars, they dance in their orbits--their chosen paths--by themselves, singing to their neighbors across space. But now... Sirius.... He did not want to be alone. He took a mate, the Companion. Since then, Sirius and the Companion have danced around each other. Love is their orbit."
Images. Sevgi, oh so young, chasing Starchaser across the snow. Starchaser appearing at the border of Silver Creek, broken soul crying out for Sevgi. The look on her face when she said that she loved him too. Starchaser and Sevgi curled together, black and white mingling. Love was their orbit.
"And that's why Sirius is the happiest of lights. He has his Companion."

ooc. xD I noticed that after I posted it, but then I didn't feel like editing it away, because the little "edited by..." thing is so ugly. D:
ic. She looked up at the unusually-patterned male, interest sparking brightly in her blue eyes as she listened intently to his explanation. She honestly had no idea why, though Fei knew that the star must have a very good reason for being so happy indeed. Tail wagged behind her as she listened to Starchaser, though a frown of confusion flickered across her face- stars could have mates? She blinked a few times, letting this new tidbit of knowledge sink in before looking up at the sky to search for the Companion, observing the sky with sharp eyes.
A grin made its way onto her face when she spotted the two stars, and somehow she knew that they were meant to be together. She nodded, a smile curling her lips as she asked, "But shouldn't oth'r stars have mates too?" It seemed strange that only Sirius and the Companion were together when all of the other stars were solitary- didn't they want to be as happy at Sirius?

2_2. Saitilėt is gaelic for "satellite."

Looking down at the small white form beside him, Starchaser wished that he could answer her question. It seemed like such an important one: why? Why not love someone so deeply that you would be locked in eternal orbit? Looking up at the small white flecks of glitter above him, Starchaser asked them to give him an answer. The stars giggled and cooed, charmed by the naivite of their earthbound brother and sister.
Finally, he was forced to direct his words to February. "I donnae know, Fei. I'd think they'd all want to be like Sirius and the Companion.... But other stars have saitilėt. I'm sorry that I donnae know the proper English word for it.... They're things that orbit the sun but donnae shine, and sometimes they have saitilėt of their own." Starchaser shrugged, his serenity a welcome change from the frantic panic of not so long before. "May'hap they havenae met the right star, or they've fallen in love with wolves on the ground. Mayhap. Mayhap. Donnae know for certain."

ic. Why? The young pup asked the stars, wanting to learn more about them and how they worked. Twinkling, the stars danced for her, laughing, but said nothing. Or maybe they did speak; February suspected that it was because she didn't know enough of their language to understand what they were trying to tell her. She felt an unsatisfied hunger to know more about the dancing lights that adorned the night sky, asking them to teach her of their ways. She wanted to understand, she wanted to learn. Now that she knew that stars truly were individuals, like she had always suspected, it was only natural that she wanted to get rid of the hunger by gaining more knowledge of the thing that she wanted to know more of.
Fei listened intently to Starchaser's words, awed by the traditions and the thoughts of the stares. Admiration for the hybrid glinted in her heart, and she sent both the male and the stars a grateful smile- these lights had truly brightened her day, like they seemed to have brightened Starchaser's. When she had first seen him, he had been frantic, a mess, but he seemed calm now. The white pup let out a gusty sigh, smile lingering on her adorable features. "They're so beau'ful."

February's smile warmed his spirit like starlight warmed the tips of every hair. What was it with him and white wolves? Like stars, white wolves led him onward, out of darkness and into light.
Fancy siezed him then. With a smile, easy and calm, he lowered his head to her level, eyes lifted up with reverence. The world was not over. Sevgi would get better. Sevgi loved him and he loved Sevgi. The world was just beginning.
"Fei, the stars think that you're beautiful too." The moment the compliment left his maw, the stars sang out a little louder. The chorus was the most divine kind of deafening for the skywatcher. He let the sound wash over him. Sevgi would be alright.

ooc. Sorry of the wait. D: This thread should be ended soon, yes? XD
ic. She sighed, admiring the beautiful stars that twinkled above her, bright blue eyes flickering with wonder. The stars were just so beautiful, so peaceful. February once again felt that longing to know them better, to understand them and to be able to converse with him. And yet, there was also one part of her that radiated the fear of the unknown. What would it be like, being connected to the things that twinkled in the sky? Then there was also the knowledge of knowing too much. Would she be better off if she hadn't known about the stars? She turned to look at Starchaser, about to ask him when she saw the calmed, warm smile on Starchaser's face. The stars had comforted him.
February's lips curled into a smile, and she glanced upwards, thanking the skies for the admirable male's recovery. She shifted uneasily when she heard Starchaser's compliment, cheeks feeling hot with a pleased sort of embarassment- flattery, it seemed to be. She giggled, before breathing out awed words of gratitude, "Thank yew."

Yes, of course. Apologies for the wait. <3 This thread was marrrvelous.
Starchaser nodded his elegant, doggish head to the little pup's gratitude. He was the one that should be grateful. Without the calm, loving wisdom of white wolves, the kind prince would have been lost forever. "Thank you, Fei," his quicksilver voice bubbled. "Eveything will be alright now."
Blue eyes lifted up, this time not to the starlight, but to the moonlight. He smiled at the disk, features soft, reading in its aura the weather and the time. With a gentle, reserved hmph, the zeta tipped his nose into February's side, chiding her as elderwolves must. "Methinks it's past your bedtime, mademoiselle. Everything'll be alright now. I must be getting back to my mate. Hopefully, it shallnae be long until I see you again, eh?"
