So far, in the little while of having been in the region, Vanity hadn't had much energy to muster anything wrong with it. It was far from perfect, but maybe that's the way she preferred it. Gave her less competition. Snickering at her small joke, she continued to amble forward. Not in a real hurry to go anywhere, or see anybody or really look forward to getting anywhere. The only reason she was out was to get a feel for the lands so maybe she wouldn't be so dense when wolves started asking her about a particular area and all she could offer was a blank stare that would probably all but answer their question. The chance of being clueless or uninformed gave her the sense of being left out, which was one thing she couldn't and wouldn't stand for. Looking up at the sky, it nearly burned her eyes. She didn't particularly like the sunlight. This time of year it wasn't so bad because it warmed up her body faster, but in the summer it worked against her. And now she was reminiscing about unusual things. Shaking her head to get rid of these thoughts, she went on with her business.
It seemed that she was in some sort of swamp, or a marsh. What made the two different, she didn't know, but it was one of them. It wasn't very sturdy to walk on and occassionally bubbles would graze the side of her paw when she stepped in a particularly mucky spot. Cringing, she didn't too much enjoy getting her normally pristine coat dirty, but she would manage. Maybe take a dip in a body of water somewhere and clean it off... no doubt there was plenty of it hiding somewhere that she hadn't explored yet. Onwards she continued. Trying her best to keep in the dark shadows of barren trees that scraped the sky it seemed, as well as avoiding particularly gross aspects of the terrain by using roots as stepping stones. It was a bit unusual for an onlooker, but it kept her happy.
Finally finding a particularly dry spot, she sat and examined the damage to her coat. Sighing, she layed down and just ignored it. It wasn't going to bother her right now. Having stayed up all night she was somewhat tired, but she refused to fall asleep. Keep her eyes ajar, she examined a blade of two-toned grass and the bug that was determined to take the whole blade with it back home.

Bronx glanced up briefly at the childplay of the changing seasons. One morning it was autumn, and the leaves would be as dry and crisp as if they’d been baking under a sweltering summer sun, but about as fiery in colour as the eyes of the Novan Præfectus. The next morning the leaves would have all given in; the wind would be sharp enough to drive his fierce scar to utmost agony, and the weather would have decided that it was winter.

Today it seemed to be half and half. But the sky was a particularly bleak colour, and the sun was as bright as heaven. Bronx wandered the borders of Forbidden Swamp, his heavy black paws automatically finding dry steps; he had been here more than enough times to know where not to stand. Still, there was something alluring about the place – and it wasn’t the smell.

It seemed at least slightly popular today, because Bronx soon spotted a dark female up ahead. He glanced at her vaguely and continued on his way, passing by her dry island through the safe route.

Didn't notice I kept leaving it as Out of Character... :ditzy: x)

In Character
A soft breeze ran its nimble fingers through her luxurious coat. Closing her eyes and enjoying this moment, she suddenly heard something. Using her peripheral vision she spotted another shadowed wolf making his way through the area she had just come from. Although she was not in the mood to necessarily make friends today, she thought it was still particularly rude for someone to pass and not so much as acknowledge another. Raising a brow, she averted her vision ahead and spoke plainly. So what, it's beyond wolves here to give a simple greeting... even if it's just in passing? Snorting in slight digust, she hoisted her upper body up onto her front two limbs. In her own curiosity, she asked yet another question. Would you consider this a swamp or a marsh? The answer, if given one, would help to settle the dispute with herself earlier as to what this was and what set it apart from the other.
Looking moreso in his general direction than directly at him, she waited for an answer. She waited patiently, for once. It had not been a virtue of her family, and that's all that she had experienced in a long time. That was the only interaction she had been given. Every once in a while she would cross paths with another wolf, but it was rare, and not enough to give her skills in conversation and what was right and what was wrong. Things that should and shouldn't be said. And to be completely honest, she didn't actually care to much about that stuff. If it was going to become an issue around here then she would gladly leave and make home somewhere else. But so far, there hadn't been a problem. And so far, this was the only wolf she had spoken too.

Life went by quite happily, and Bronx walked by a fair number of wolves without starting a conversation. Nevertheless, it seemed that the female wanted to address him, so his rangy pace slowed somewhat and he glanced down at her. Her words and arrogant snort were not well received. The second question he ignored, because it was a bit pointless considering what she had just said.

It was polite to answer, so as emotionless and toneless as ever, the dark ex-Guardian replied. “And what, prey, would meaningless small-talk give you? A light in your otherwise dark existence, maybe? A voice to sing along to? Sexual ecstasy?” hey, it was his dark, sarcastic sense of humour; forever deadpan. Some could take it. Most could not.

Having said something did draw his attention away from whatever he was previously focused on and now it was centered, more or less, on her. Happy with this, she grinned. There was nothing like the attention being on a beautiful wolf. Ears twitched, and her violet pools followed him, now more direct than before. Giving a slight bow of respect, his scent was not of where she had started out. However little she knew of that area, she did know that much. A mental shrug was all she cared to give. His words actually forced a small heave of a chuckle out of her dry throat. Squinting as if she were deep in thought at his inquiries, she came to a conclusion and promptly presented it to him.
Sexual ecstasy. It would give me a hell of an orgasm. Vanity was quite used to the sense of humor from her brothers. Avarice, from what she could remember, along with Wrath seemed to be of the same mold. Familiar with his dry tone, sense of humor - or lack thereof - and sarcasm, it made her feel nostalgic for home. But then again, "home" had not been a very happy nor welcoming place. In fact they had been forced out a barely a year. With little skills, all had been mostly learned together. Vanity associated herself better with Avarice, Wrath, and Gluttony... Sloth and the other two had issues, and Avarice was actually sometimes a traitor to the higher up of the siblings. Or at least the ones who fit their name better. The onyx female had averted her head downwards as she was reflecting on past days, it reminded her of how much those times were bad. The only time she was happy was when there was some twisted humor tied to it. Oh well. What's done was done, and couldn't be fixed. It was too far embedded in her by now.

A dark smile played very briefly over his features. And he came to a consequent standstill, his stride being slow anyway in order to hear whatever she had to say, but still intending vaguely on continuing his walk. Still, there was nothing wrong with a bit of company once in a while, even if this company’s life apparently revolved around greetings.

Nevertheless, Bronx's life was far from pointless as it went by. He was hardly the type to wander about just for the hell of it; today he was snatching a rare moment away from Nova Mountain, alone with his thoughts as he explored the rather dangerous territory that was Forbidden Swamp. He hadn't expected to see anyone about (truthfully, he didn't care anyway), but here she was. “You know,” he replied, “I don't think I'll give you the pleasure.”

This conversation was taking quite an interesting turn. In a way it was a bit of a relief from what she usually had to deal with.. i.e. herself. Talking to yourself day after day and being your only means of consultation wasn't easy, nor enjoyable. Even though the violet hued wolf was neutral as to how she felt about this male, still unlabeled, she did like the fact that somebody finally talked to her, even if she was the one to initiate it. Figuring that this wolf was not the sort of wolf to start a conversation as it was, it was almost a gift to be talking to him. But she wasn't about to give him that much credit. He was no god, at least not in her eyes. He was merely another black wolf out of the handful out there. Nothing too special about him, from what she could tell. And the same could be said for her, other than he shady past and unusual family.
So this was how it was going to be. He wouldn't give her the satisfaction she was so hoping for. She hadn't gotten her hopes up. This did not stop her from continuing. Well damn, that's a shame... Giving a dramatized sigh, she looked at the ground then back and gave a slight smirk. I don't really like quickie's all that much anyways. I much prefer the sensual connection. Closing her eyes, she quivered and gave a fake, sexual groan. Chuckling slightly, she opened her eyes once more and looked back at him. Vanity hadn't expected the conversation to even travel this far, especially not on this subject. Most thought it a sin and it's rightful place was in the bedroom, or in the den in this case. For the sake of the conversation, So, you come here often? It was a cheesy pick up line she had heard too often. Oh the pains of being pretty.

Bronx was as toneless as usual even with this conversation that could be mistaken for flirtatious. No, not Bronx – to him, this conversation was just mildly humorous. Anyone was welcome to come along and say “hey, you’re flirting!” but they’d get a blank glare. Besides, no one would say that anyway. And Tiamat? She had far too much trust in him to tell him off for saying the word “pleasure” in the presence of another female.

At the stranger’s moan of mock-sexual ecstasy, Bronx replied darkly; “I’ve heard better,” before assuming he was in for the long haul, taking a few subtle steps back and sitting down. “Can’t say that I have. Mud-pile from hell isn’t one of my personal favourite haunts. You?”

As the conversation was progressing, the once unsocial male was beginning to be a little bit more open. She was surprised they were still talking. It seemed as if they would have the perfect set up for a personality disagreement. Then again, if he reminded her so much of her brothers than me she wasn't so surprised. Things were extremely different here, and for a female that hadn't been around others in a while, maybe wolves were making more of an effort to be friendly. However if this were true, he would be considered to not be trying at all. It was a constant debate in her head and just when she thought she had found the answer to why they were still here, of all places, the opposite of her suggestion beat it back down into submission and she was right back where she started. In an attempt to keep her own sanity, whatever was left, she completely ignored why he was here, why he cared to chat, and every other question that would pop up in her mind that revolved around their conversation.
It seemed her mock-sexual emit hadn't done much for him. She wasn't too bothered with this fact, she wasn't trying to get a rise out of him just by some silly moan. Shrugging plainly she retorted, Probably have, you seem like the sort of 'manly-wolf' to catch all the little damsels running about, play with their hearts, then move on. I'm related to the sort. Most of her siblings didn't like to dwell on the fact that they weren't alone on the family tree. She wasn't sure why, but she had come to notice that many wolves don't like to talk about family. Or maybe it was just her imagination. Whatever it was, she didn't care too much if he knew who she was related to. Going in depth though was a little bit more of a touchy subject, the sort of subject she didn't like handling because she preferred her emotions to stay put and force Superbia to handle it all.
Can't say that it is, except I havn't been here long enough to establish a 'favorite haunt,' as you put it. Maybe you could offer your input as to what I need to watch out for or something of that sort. Maybe he would be sweet enough to answer her last question. From the looks of it, he had made himself more comfortable and it gave her the right to assume that she had caught his attention well enough to keep him around long enough to maybe find out what it's like to live around here. That way she would be able to establish early on whether or not she would officially be welcomed or work out here with others.

The stranger’s reply first off went ignored. After all, the slight stress in the words “manly wolf” suggested that she was being sarcastic (ironically), or mocking; which was, no matter how much humour was apparently being tossed around here, outright rude and disrespectful. Nevertheless, Bronx let the comment slide because the female may not have meant it in that way; if it was a misunderstanding and she was bold enough to point out that he appeared a heartbreaker, then she wouldn’t have received an answer anyway.

Once more, the slight stress (that suggested quotation marks) in “favourite haunt” and the words “as you put it”, were really very arrogant. This stranger was arrogant, end of story. Bronx had met thousands of such females and he certainly didn’t place his thoughts on her for any more than half a second. “Yeah,” he answered, “don’t go near Nova Mountain. At all. Silver Creek and Nova Mountain are on bad terms.”

This is strange because I did it in about 3 different sittings, and I'm sorry it took so long. <3;

In Character
The violet she-wolf was beginning to grow tired of this meeting, it had been interesting but now she was ready to move on and wander around some more. Turning her attention momentarily away from the still unnamed male, she looked upwards at the beauty that was the sky... and then soon lost interest in that as well. Sighing, she looked back towards her company as he spoke. Narrowing her eyes in thought, she soon guessed that she was considered a member of Silver Creek and he of Nova Mountain. The only detail left was a name, but this wasn't a serious concern of hers. Eventually she would find out and that would be that. It wouldn't really be much of a personal gain on her behalf, only to say "I met -name-" instead of "that wolf" or something along those lines. Vanity was spending far too much time on the matter, almost to the point of where her attempt to call it a minute matter was dismissed.
Nodding her head first, she replied to his words. That's useful information, thank you for sharing that. She was genuine in what she said. Bronx could have easily not told her at all and she would have found out probably when it was a little too late. Smiling, she gave a graceful bow and pulled herself away from him some. Well, it was nice meeting you... It trailed off and she looked up once more. Before we go our separate ways, are there any other words of wisdom to offer? She was serious and her face was straight. Normally she wouldn't ask, but since he had been nice enough to offer it once, maybe he could share his knowledge with her once more to keep her safe. That wasn't really a big concern of hers, but it would at least keep her a live maybe one day longer.

That’s fine. :P

IN CHARACTER
The stranger offered her grattitude for the information, though he knew that she would have found out in a much more violent way had she trod upon Nova Mountain borders – perhaps from Bronx himself. He wasn’t at all interested in protecting her: at the moment, her name was “a Silver Creek wolf”, and that was why he had filled her in. Then she proceeded to push her luck a bit when she asked for more information; so, naturally, she received no answer.

For some reason, the stranger wanted to cut this meeting short, which was fine with the indifferent Præfectus. With a brief nod of farewell, he stood up and left, the pause in his walk having only lasted little more than ten minutes.

the master the master

Just gonna get an ending up for it so it can be archived. <3

the vain the vain

He didn't offer anymore, and instead slowly began to walk away. Figuring that had been asking too much, she shrugged to herself and considered the same maneuvar herself. They had never exchanged names. That could easily be saved for another meeting later on down the road if they were so inclined to organize it. Or maybe have others organize it. He was an interesting fellow. One she might find herself growing attached to over time, but he seemed far too cold and distant to consider such a thing. Besides, he showed the wisdom of having been here much longer than some she had met, which meant he probably already had an interest.
Vanity was being simply foolish. Shaking her head, she watched him depart and she raised and went about her way exploring the swampy area for a bit longer before she sought refuge back at the creek to clean her paws and call it a day. Or maybe she would be led somewhere else, who knew. She could travel on a whim if she wanted to, and so with the given opportunity, perhaps she would.
