It'd be nice if someone Chogan actually knew – Siaqi, Arsenio, Tobin, Bronx, etc – replied to this. If not, that's cool too. :) Edit: Sinistra's joining in, too.
INCHARACTER
Enough really was enough. When Chogan thought there was absolutely nothing worse life could throw at him, a band of foul kidnappers began to threaten the safety of his pack members. Who knew what lengths they would go to in order to bring the Saqui-Citlali brothers into their ranks? What loyal Strawberry Field wolves would fall by the wayside in the process, fighting to keep their crownless princes safe? Could he cope? The way things were looking – no. He was desperate for consolation, for advice, and where once Styx had existed to provide him with both, now there was but a cold, empty den. With growing desperation, he raced up the blackened mountain. It was growing dark, and the decision to come had been very last minute, but he needed to speak to someone. Anyone. Where were Saiqi and Arsenio? Where was Bronx? He could use someone with their feet on the ground. Choked by tears, he didn't dare call out for them, and winter's chill had paralyzed his nose. If they didn't find him, he would have a nervous breakdown right there on the mountainside.

She was there tip-toeing on the paralysing edge of dream, feeling the brush of Tobin's mocha flank going distant in its plush scrape against her own and the rhythm of her breath grew softer, more delicate as the second hand ticked past. Yet, even so, when the dip into a land made of her own mind's concoction grew to the pinnacle of its temptation and the warmth of the den was insurmountable to the chill of outside, a sudden bounce of her heart jolted those wintry curtains open and the flurried blue of her gaze was met with the moving darkness of home. The Pronconsul couldn't explain why she had felt the sudden urge to jump back to living colour, but the need had been there nonetheless and still stirred in the remnants of her waking hour.
Lifting her headpiece with the flurries of a delicate frown itching across her feminine features, the silver lady cast her gaze about the sleeping males – the dominator in their family these days – and quietly pushed herself to a stand. There was nothing but a slight maze, which sproutings of multicoloured fur tried to hide, to pick her way through and expertly she did so, careful not to stir any of the boys by her momentary passing. Even as she shed the coat of her den, she didn't know where her paws would take her but followed without complainant as they began to pick their way up Nova's dominating side.
The rock's became rougher, colder and the path less discernable in the dark, the purpose masked behind a chilled breath that rose in front of her face to disappear in a moment's pass. But still she was spurned up the mountain's side. And there, looming like a hazy grey in the darkness was a figure that should've been more known to her given the lengthy ties to the past. Now she knew of their adolescent identities, the differing timbre of their voices, the subtle differences in their scents and the variation in colours that patterned their respective bodies, Siaqi found it easy to tag the moniker to the lone figure in the dark.
From her wayward position, she couldn't see the tears that stung his cheek's fine plush nor could she see the mottle of his expression. Nevertheless, the Nova angel was quite aware that something wasn't quite right, otherwise why would this boy be here at this hour, hiding up the slopes of their rocky home? Edging closer and tilting her pale head to better see him in their lack of light, the smooth lyric of her voice etched perfectly on the notes of undiluted concern, "Chogan?"

The meeting with Sphinx had gone more or less as expected, but Sinistra still felt disappointed. He had harbored one last hope that the Creek Alpha was not an utter loss; that she would come to her senses upon hearing the dastardly acts of Mister Red Eyes and others among her legions. Alas, there was no such luck: Mister Red Eyes was not going to be exiled from Silver Creek and it seemed they were now, for all practical purposes, in a state of pre-war more serious than they ever had been. More serious, it seemed, because this state genuinely was pre-war, there really would be a war to follow unless something drastic and unexpected saved them. But whispers in the Valley said that this was not the only battle raging.
The black Cæsar was surprised to find a trespasser so deep in Mountain lands, although unlike so many other unwelcome guests he was not instantly enraged at the violation. Though he had never officially said so, Sinistra considered Chogan a welcome visitor to the mount at any time he so desired because he had brought the cure to them and saved so many of their members from the throes of the summer plague. He was, so to speak, an honorary Novan. This only served to add to the concern Sin felt when calculating the terrified posture which the Fields youth had seemingly adopted: he looked more lost and confused than the DarkMoon had seen in a very long time.
Through the darkness he spotted another figure approaching the lone Strawberry on their mountainside: he soon enough identified this other as a native, as Siaqi, whom he vaguely recalled hearing was somehow related to Chogan as it were — at any rate, the youth had been born to the Gold Moon Alphas around the same time that his Proconsul had birthed her own children, alone, while Tobin was running around an enigmatic amnesiac on Nova. As the white she-wolf had already prompted the child’s attention, Sinistra quietly approached to stand off to Siaqi’s side, awaiting their guest’s reply with growing concern.

This'll make sense regardless of what changes anyone makes in the previous posts, I think. Edit: Okay, maybe not. :P EDITED.
INCHARACTER
With his heart thumping so violently in his ears, Chogan could barely make out the sound of Sinistra approaching, and had it not been for the Caesar's sun-bright eyes he would not have spotted him against the rock. Embarrassed at being found in such a dreadful state, the Strawberry drew a few steadying breaths and bowed his muzzle respectfully. Since their last meeting, word had reached his ears that not only had Sinistra played an active part in searching for a cure to the spring-time plague, he was also the reigning master of the southern mountains. ”Oh, hey – I...I didn't mean to trespass,” Chogan croaked, furious that his voice was not entirely under his own control. He crept closer. ”I was...looking for someone. Arsenio, or Siaqi...well, anyone. You, even.” He laughed, and promptly choked on it. ”Strawberry Fields are in trouble,” he whispered steadily, picking his head up and steadying himself by finding strength in the leaders calm, empowering gaze. Just then, a flash of white and the voice of an angel caught his attention – as if his thoughts had touched her subconscious and drawn her from her den. He breathed a shuddering sigh of relief and rushed to lick her chin, desperate to curl up next to her and just cry. Alas, there were more pressing matters at hand, and it was not only his own welfare that was at stake. Reluctantly, he detached himself from Siaqi and stood so that he might address both wolves equally.
”I'm in trouble. We've got...visitors. A weird tribe, they keep coming to the borders, threatening the pack because I won't go live with them. They keep saying I'm their heir – I'm not. And even if I am, I ...” Chill. Just calm down. ”They can't just rip me out by the roots and throw me in the deep end. They're hostile, bad creatures. I don't know what...what to do. Someone's going to get hurt.” All this he said without any knowledge of the tension brewing between Nova Mountain and Silver Creek, news of which would only serve to push him closer to the edge. The valley was falling apart.

This is born of needing to write something fast but not knowing what to write at the same time. >>; Gah.
The scraping of callous pads against freezing stone ricocheted off the innards of a rotating ear, clear against the quieter sounds of night and would bring Sinistra's approach to Siaqi's notice. She had to be forgiven, however, for even as he docked at her side, the female's attention couldn't unhook from the nail of Chogan's distress from which it had wrapped around, to give him the leader's welcome he was always due. The croaking timbre of the Strawberry's explanation to the Cæsar brought an overwhelming flush of worry to tide over her, wolfen knees feeling momentarily weak as a mind strayed not only to the brothers, but to Indris (who had been sorely missed in his seeming absence) and building frightful concoctions to what the manner of this trouble was.
Selflessly, the pale arctic female managed to push all that way in the motion of a single blink the second Chogan dashed his peppered form toward her. The hazy flash of his tongue flickered in her peripheral vision, the warm wet felt against the cold of her chin as was the soft press of his downy self against her rising chest. A soft nuzzle was given back to him, a nibble teasing through the plush of his cheek quickly before he was making himself absent from her forefront, directly positioning himself before the two Novians. The next stream of statements to exit from his youthful mouth would position a thick lump in the base of her throat, that would rise the accompaniment of a rising fear, a selfish questioning of why now and a overwhelming protectiveness that made her want to hide him under a rock and keep him safe.
She felt angered that this tribe dare take him from the Fields, when clearly he didn't want to go and a glance toward Sinistra, confusion riddling into that confrontational rage, confirmed so. She wanted to tell him everything was going to be okay, that Sinistra and her would wave a stick or kick a rock or something and it would be so. But saying that without knowing it would didn't seem right… so instead, she mustered up the courage of her silence, ignoring for once her inability to know what to say, and uttered with conviction, "They won't take you." And more importantly, she wouldn't let them.

Sinistra’s brow furrowed as he took in what Chogan said, especially when he reached the last bit: “Strawberry Fields are in trouble.” If the frown on his muzzle could have grown any deeper it would have; he was acquainted with very few members of the pack in question now that Rayen and Midas had disappeared, but he remembered a brief meeting with Quicksilver when she had been the latter pair’s Beta… when they hadn’t even been known as “Strawberry Fields,” nearly a year ago now.
He was about to ask what kind of trouble, exactly, they were in (although there was really little Nova Mountain could do to help, he suspected — they had more than enough trouble of their own!) when Chogan began to explain to the both of them exactly that.
Sinistra could feel his heart sinking from his throat down towards the pits of his stomach as the explanation registered. The DarkMoon had never been thrilled about the presence of the Hó’nehe here, and he had been extremely suspicious of those foul foreigners since hearing of their arrival. They had no business coming here and they knew it, but he had never put two-and-two together to realize why they had come. Now that Chogan mentioned it, it was all very painfully obvious. If only he hadn’t been so engrossed with the Creek’s crap, he might have realized…
Siaqi replied very adamantly first, and the black Novan instantly nodded in confirmation of her sentiments. No, they won’t, Sinistra added very sternly, glancing back over his shoulder in the general direction of the Tribe’s newly acquired lands in the shadow of his own without even realizing he was doing it. Attention quickly returned back to the conversation at paw. Their heir? He asked curiously, shaking his head. Well, your mother was a Hó’nehe, with that much he agreed. In fact, it had been for exactly that reason that his initial impression of the Forester had been of extreme dislike. It was for the same reason that he had never liked Ravn, really, either, because her mother had always been the most obnoxious holier-than pain in the ass he’d had the misfortune of having to live with — and be polite to! Hmph.
It didn’t at all occur to him that Chogan would have no idea how he knew that, but anyway… he had pieced it together when Chogan had said his parents had been Alphas of Gold Moon Forest. It all fit.
But who cares? They shouldn’t even be here… I’ll bet those fuckers are in league with Sphinx…

Oh, essay, how insignificant you appear in face of so much WWS drama.

Chogan focused on Sinistra, and cocked his head in bewilderment. ”Er...how did you...?” But before he could finish, the Caesar had cut him off. It didn't really matter – as he had politely informed Zyanya, there were things that mattered more than estranged tribes claiming to own your soul. He put Sinistra's peculiar ability of knowing a little too much about absolutely everything on the back burner for the moment and turned back to the problem at hand.
”I don't know what to do,” the youth stressed again, breathing a frustrated sigh. ”They keep coming to our borders, walking in like Taigi and me are some kinda rock they can just pick up. I mean...should I just...go? Wouldn't that be safer for everyone?” He had never really considered martyrdom as a viable career, and the more he considered what it would mean for his future, the better he understood why.

-scratches out essay and writes coursework- x) I love how Sinistra how always link/blame things for things. :P
Rayen was a Hó'nehe? The twist of her ears toward Sinistra earmarked her surprise at discovering such a thing, but then it was probably expected that she hadn't been aware of it. In truth, Siaqi hadn't known Rayen that well or would never have picked up the signs that might have suggested such. Nevertheless in the grand scheme of things, it was a significant detail that paled in the light of a Tribe of wolves trying to kidnap her adoptive-nephews. Sadly, with heirs came those typical type of histories that where so deeply rooted a simple, "No, I'm not going," wouldn't make the Hó'nehe pack back off. She imagined they had a lot invested in the two brothers, including their own future and that alone made it complicated to say the least.
Siaqi listened to Chogan's vent of frustrations, saddened that she couldn't think of a way to make it go away or make it somehow easier for him, especially after everything he'd been through. Loosing his mother and father was hard enough for them both and now to be haunted by a bloodline few even knew existed? And if the Proconsul even knew of the hurtful things Zyanya had said to him, she herself might have flown down that tunnel looking for a pound of how-dare-you?! flesh. However, Siaqi would always found herself moved by Chogan's selflessness in these types of situations, but it was followed up by an ample shake of her head nonetheless.
"No," She started, "Not if it's not what you – or both of you – really want. As Sinistra said, they shouldn't even be here in the first place and I doubt Quicksilver, Indris or the rest of your pack would let them even look at you, unless you okayed it." It wasn't really a big check under the "keeping everyone safe and making Chogan less worried about it" box, but honestly she was at a loss for what to do.

It seemed even Siaqi didn’t know that bit about Rayen as she regarded him with brief but pointed curiosity; Sinistra wasn’t sure whether he should explain (whether it even mattered to either of them) or just leave it at that and focus on the issue at paw — the rampantly psychotic kidnappers living in the shadows of his mountain. After a moment’s thought, he decided for now on the latter, figuring if either of them wanted more information they would ask later.
Chogan’s offer of martyrdom didn’t appeal to Sinistra much more than it sounded like it appealed to Siaqi — for instance, not at all. Although as a pup the DarkMoon had always thought of the Hó’nehe as a vastly impressive collection of wolves who were weirdos nonetheless, based on what he noted in the past months about the band of bozos living yonder, there were like… five of them. Must have fallen on hard times; no wonder Rayen left.
I’m sure you would rather stay at home, the black wolf began, only realizing as he said it that it probably sounded like he was going to suggest the two of them go sacrifice themselves to the Ho-Ho-Ho gods, so he quickly finished: But the Hó’nehe won’t think to look for you here if you and Taigi need somewhere to stay while Quicksilver and the others get rid of the pests. You’ll be safer… Plus, Nova Mountain was already preparing for war — it didn’t really matter who they actually fought.

Wrapping up. :)
Chogan's heart swelled in his chest. He wanted nothing more than to leap into Sinistra's metaphoric arms and cover him in kisses, but had a feeling that wasn't the sort of thing the Novan Cæsar would appreciate or enjoy. He looked between the two leaders – straight into Siaqi's bright blue eyes and at Sinistra's black cheek, contenting himself with the knowledge that his yellow stare was nearby. They looked serious about the proposal, but Chogan was already having his doubts. While Quicksilver and the others get rid of the pests. Was that right? Was it honourable to run and hide behind a giant rock and someone else's pack whilst your Fresa fought off hell for your sake? Chogan could see his conscience's 'are you shittin' me, kid?' expression clear as if it'd been Sinistra's face. He scrunched up his lips, and breathed a sigh through his nose. ”No.” No? No. ”I can't do that,” he said after a pause, ”I can't just leave Quicksilver to take care of my crap. Thanks, though – it's...it's really cool of you to offer. I should go back to Strawberry Fields. Don't worry about us, Auntie,” he briefly touched noses with Siaqi, and grinned at her before turning to Sinistra and inclining his head. ”Thanks again.” With that, he sidestepped a few meters down the mountain, smiling up at Nova Mountain leadership before whipping around on his hind legs and barrelling down the slope. There was business to attend to back home. |
